Heavy Frost.
It turns out we got a pretty cold winter, it's now several weeks more or less freezing. The snow is gone, but the lakes have thick ice now. This allows persepectives that are impossible normally, you can just walk into the lake. Nice. Unfortunately the paths are slippery, I managed to fall on my buttock on my way back, but luckily I had my camera packed already, when that happened.
I realitze the last few rounds of photos were a little heavy handed and overprocessed. Here I tried a more subtle rendering which maybe suits the subject better? I don't know. Decisions, decisions ... I try to get out again to one of the lakes at the weekend. Usually at the weekend under such conditions everything is pretty crowded and not so nice and quiet as it looks like here, when I was almost on my own.

Please don't pinch my pictures. If you'd like to use them, then let me know. I probably won't charge, but it's nice to be nice, right?

The Daily Shoot
Today’s Daily Shoot assignment is:
The horizon can be a strong composition element. Make a photograph that emphasizes the horizon today.
Get out there, take a photograph, upload it, and tweet a link to @dailyshoot with the hashtag: #ds497
Approaching Holyhead Island having crossed the Irish Sea, slightly tricky shooting into the sun on a moving deck with 40 knot draft, but fortunately managed to get the horizon level! Curves adjusted slightly and strangely a "soft light" applied to increase the contrast of a hazy North Wales.

The sky was not so gloomy in real life, I guess I just didn't feel good about the meeting to come ;)
I don't have either the patience or the healthy hair my friend Julie has for Locks of Love. See here: www.flickr.com/photos/theolivers_inwisconsin/1922974613/
My hair is so trashed and full of split ends and thin and frizzies, did i mention trashed and over processed......on and on....I am going under the scissors. Be Back in a jiffy!
Attention à la marche...
I know it's a bit overprocessed, but I was just playing around with photoshop
but not sure if she can get that door open by herself. in the end she jumped through the ripped screen.
Colours lookes better on this, but feels overprocessed now, will try again with the AVI, which looked promising. Gain must have been too low to pick up nearby Io.
Used Skywatcher 127mm Maksutov, Televue 2.5x Powermate and SPC900 Webcam.
AVI Captured with wxAstroCapture and processed in Registax 6 and Photoshop.
I am not a fan of overprocessed HDRs, but I did kind of like this one... which means either it's a potentially passable overprocessed HDR; or perhaps my aesthetic opinions are faltering.

Hmm. Next time I do HDR, I'm not using handheld pictures :) The high ISO noise and misalignment kind of ruins the effect.
I tried to create an HDR image without the "overprocessed" look that's currently popular - I just want to show you what I could see with my eyes, but which the camera couldn't do.
The last Fridays After 5 of 2008 in the Charlottesville Pavilion. Featuring Indecision and some rather gloomy skies.
What's up Homewood? Yo, where are all your people at?
Dog, I'm up in your buildings taking sub par pictures, forcing me to compensate by overprocessing and writing kitschy blurbs, but where are all the people? And what's up with your BBQ joint and your bank-y building?
What's the deal Homewood?
I admit that since this batch of photos wasn't particularly brilliant, I tried experimenting with some Photoshop filters to see what kinds of different effects I could get. Can't tell if they improve the bland photos or, as is so often the case with these experiments, just look overprocessed.
Clipped and overprocessed a bit.
Got some clear sky at 3 AM..
Good test of the narrow OIII filter with the moon out.
SII was horrible...so I fudged it.
May look at the 3nm SII Astrodon filter....and maybe the Ha.

didn't mean to posterize my "telecommunications" submission, it just happened, and I ended up really liking it. The original idea had me holding about ten cell phones, and it just wasn't working out. I hate the things and I actually have two working cell phones with two different numbers. go figure.
