A sunset by the sea...oh how I miss thee! The clouds were ablazed with fiery colors soon after the sun had disappeared below the horizon. This was viewed from the Pacifica Pier in Pacifica, CA. Me and my family were here since we wanted to do some crabbing.
It was a big Sunday for my family and I. We sort of did like a double event: celebrated my cousin Racquelle's 18th birthday at Tomi Seafood Buffet, and then gathered at Pacifica Pier at Pacifica, CA to do some crabbing! We even met up with my cousin J.J. in the process! We hardly see him so it was a special treat.
*How it all went down*
After having our usual Sunday church service, we all gathered for lunch at the Tomi Seafood Buffet in Eastridge. Boy, there was a lot of people! Good thing we made a reservation though. At the same time, we had celebrated my cousin Racquelle's 18th birthday there (after we were just about done eating). We even had a mango cake for her and we even had small table decorations and all haha! After lunch, we all proceeded to Pacifica, CA...
It was late afternoon when we arrived to the Pacifica Pier. The weather was very nice...lots of sun and especially, no coastal fog (karlthefog)! After taking care of the parking issue, we made our camp on the pier. There were a lot of people fishing and crabbing as well, but mostly of fishing. After waiting for everyone else to arrive, we then set up the crabbing nets around our area of the pier. The weather was perfect and it wasn't windy...usually it is. After a while, the sun was setting so that was when I moved to the end of the pier to photograph and video the setting sun over the vast, clear Pacific Ocean...
After enjoying my ocean sunset alone, I headed back to our camp. We were also surprised to see my cousin Faith and her family! They arrived kinda late. By the way, while I was seeing the sunset, the rest of my cousins, Richie and my sis went walking down the beach and even reached the landforms and mountains just to the south end of the beach. I was too busy and occupied with the sunset lol. As for the crabs, we caught one ever since we arrived but it was even barely big enough so I think one of us threw it back. Overall, we caught no crab! But despite the disappointment of not getting anything, we still enjoyed our time together as a family by the sea. We also enjoyed the sunset (me the most) and just having the thrill of crabbing and pulling up the nets to see if there was life in those nets or not. We stayed at the pier until around 8 p.m. We left the pier after taking some family group pics. Then we all went our separate ways...
It was certainly a fun Sunday with my families!

"Family Outing"
I was taking out the recycling this morning when I spotted something crawling along the bricks. When I got a little closer, I realized it was a mother spider carrying her sack of eggs. Just out for a stroll, I guess. Anyway, I knew I could not pass up photographing her......them. With the macro extension tubes already on the camera (I used them yesterday for the aphid shoot), I attempted to coerce Mom to pose for me. I was unsuccessful in doing so. If I wanted her in the sun, she wanted to hang in the shade. If I wanted her to stand on top of this log, she wanted to hide behind it. So shy!! In the end, I let her recluse (not a verb).......crap, I hope she is not a brown recluse!!! Anyway, she crawled down the side of the log, so I joined her.........tilting body and camera to make things horizontal. One can clearly see how shallow the depth of field was, and I had decided to focus on the egg sack. The light is natural, though I had hoped to get them into the studio for this shoot. Congratulations, and please name one of them, Alexander!!! Thanks for hanging out!

This year, they've decided on Class I/II white water rafting in the Shenandoah + Potomac Rivers. We had to choose a theme + create a group jingle to perform... in. front. of. everyone.

the size and variety of trains on display in this vast warehouse is really impressive. i kept thinking of the train stations chris and i have traveled through in london, moscow, madrid and other big cities--a far cry from our pennsylvania staycation with a 2yo T! we all enjoyed the visit to the railroad museum, but will definitely return in a few years to explore more. today T was naturally more interested in climbing.
went to Pulau Ubin, a little island in Singapore, for a little outing with my office colleagues. Great trip, and excellent day for photo taking as you can see the sky is on our side. Though the sun was burning HOT!

A wonderful Spring day in Blighty. Qualifying for the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix. Good coffee and the Saturday market in the morning. Motorcycle fettling and the first outing of the season on the vintage Yamaha AS2 (1969) in the afternoon. Braaing and relaxing at our allotment in the evening. Good wine, home-brewed "Karl Mark's Lager", magnificent lamb and my family. Content! March 24, 2012.
