Borobudur, or Barabudur, is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist Temple.The monument consists of six square platforms topped by three circular platforms and is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues. A main dome, located at the center of the top platform, is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues each of which is seated inside a perforated stupa. It is the worldās largest Buddhist temple, as well as one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world.
Built in the 9th century during the reign of the Sailendra Dynasty, the temple was designed in Javanese Buddhist architecture, which blends the Indonesian indigenous cult of ancestor worship and the Buddhist concept of attaining Nirvana. The temple also demonstrates the influences of Gupta art that reflects India's influence on the region, yet there are enough indigenous scenes and elements incorporated to make Borobudur uniquely Indonesian. The construction has been estimated to have taken 75 years and been completed during the reign of Samaratungga in 825. Borobudur is still used for pilgrimage; once a year, Buddhists in Indonesia celebrate Vesak at the monument, and Borobudur is Indonesia's single most visited tourist attraction.

The Outer Bay will be closing for its big makeover. Renovations will keep it closed until July of 2011. This is the white shark that was there in November of 2009. Maybe once the work is completed, they'll have the opportunity to get another white shark.

Carl Sandburg College Theatreā performs āOuter Limits,ā on Friday, Nov. 6 at Costa Catholic Academyā in Galesburg. Sandburg's Theatre Department offered the 30-minute production for children to other area schools as well including King Elementary School, Nielsen Elementary School, and Lincoln Early Childhood School in Monmouth. Additionally, the show was hosted in the Fine Arts Theater at the Main Campus from November 12-14.
