DIY electronics workshop to build a 6 oscillator, light controlled drone and noise box

Those two mica-mold caps in front were the final culprits. They were in the vertical oscillator/amp circuit.

Build Sequence 1 complete. Ceramic Resonator and Crystal Oscillators complete, Transmit Offset and RIT circuits complete

Produced using a Microkorg with a single triangle wave, using an LFO of varying frequences to manipulate the filter cutoff. By doing a long exposure and moving the camera at various speeds, I was able to get copies of the changing waveform from the oscillator in the image at different locations.

Chris Cundy playing with a custom built synth type thing which consisted of 4 light sensors and some oscillators that he tweaks around with by flashing light into the sensors, was pretty cool!

Gannets live at Water Rats. I mainly came to see them because Fyfe Dangerfield of Guillemots were playing and I was interested to see him in an experimental jazz band. The show was definitely an amazing aural experience, there was literally no beginning or end and everything was spontaneous and in the moment. The audience and band had loads of fun and it ended with a quick encore.

Here's a hd video of them jamming along

"Symphony n.4 for oscillators and internal combustion engine vibrations"

This is a simple RC relaxation oscillator. I borrowed the circuit design from the venerable Belt Beacon (which I reverse engineered in some earlier photos). I tweaked the component values to reduce the power delivered to the bulb, with the intent that this will operate for weeks from small batteries.

Transmitter equipment for the BBC TV transmission link from London to Edinburgh, 1952. The transmitter was located at Windy Hill, 22 miles from Manchester, from where a chain of 6 microwave relay stations took the signal across the Pennines and up the East Coast to Edinburgh.

All Done! Well, with the exception of one of my 6581's has a dead oscillator. On the hunt for a pair of 8580's.

The insides of a pair of cheap wireless transmitters. The whole thing is roughly three inches by four. All that stuff is packed in there pretty tightly by 1980's standards

Label on the oscillator box.
