Rode Orm mjod, brew from Norrlands, the northernmost region of Sweden. Real beer can from about 1972-73 but the ad is my own creation. Ad copy is from the English translation on the back panel of the can.

Rode Orm (Red Orm) was a character in a Viking adventure novel called "The Long Ships" by Swedish writer Frans G. Bengtsson, set in the late 10th Century.

The Ohio Railway Museum, located in the Columbus suburb of Worthington, was at one time the premier railroad museum of the Midwest. Started in 1948, ORM grew quickly and by 1960 it rostered a number of beautifully restored interurban cars, electric locomotives and streetcars, plus a running Erie Railroad motor car and two operating steam locomotives (Norfolk & Western 4-6-2 578 was steamed up nearly every Sunday afternoon, pulling three matching heavyweights over the museum’s 1.5 miles of track – the former Columbus, Delaware & Marion Electric). ORM’s first thirty years were very successful, but the past forty-five years have been challenging, to say the least. The story is complex, but poor decisions in the 1970s and 1980s, plus a lack of maintenance, has left the collection in disrepair. Today, as the ORM celebrates its 75th year, there is a small but dedicated group of volunteers that are diligently working to right the wrongs of the past. An interurban car, former Ohio Public Service Company 64 (G. C. Kuhlman, 1924) returned to operation a few years ago, and there is also a 65-ton GE in service. An original Columbus streetcar, 703, is under restoration where the ORM carbarn used to stand. There is a lot of work to do, and the volunteers have an uphill battle, but judging by the people I met during my visit, they will get there.

The month of February is a cold time of year in La Palma! A bad cold weather front with strong winds, low temperatures and rain hit the Observatory del Roque de los Muchachos 5-8 February 2018. Once the storm passed and the clouds cleared, spectacular ice formations were left behind. The Large-Sized Telescope (LST) prototype, parked during the construction towards high elevation angles, acted as a perfect collector of these ice formations. After a careful inspection, the LST team was happy to learn that no damage was found in the telescope structure during the extreme conditions. Most of the ice melted in the following three days.

ORMS is a firm of architects and designers at the rear of Exmouth House, which they recently refurbished. I think the building to the right was built as a maternity clinic around 1930 but is now a centre for treating children who stammer.

The DB7 was introduced as a Grand Tourer in 1994 continueing through to 2004. he DB7, known internally as the NPX project, was made mostly with resources from Jaguar and had the financial backing of the Ford Motor Company, owner of Aston Martin from 1988 to 2007. The DB7's platform is an evolution of the Jaguar XJS's, though with many changes. The styling started life as the still-born Jaguar F type (XJ41 – coupe / XJ42 – convertible) designed by Keith Helfet. Ford cancelled this car and the general design was grafted onto an XJS platform. The styling received modest changes by Ian Callum so that it looked like an Aston Martin. The first generation Jaguar XK-8 also uses an evolution of the XJ-S/DB7 platform and the cars share a family resemblance, though the Aston Martin was significantly more expensive and rare. The DB7 was engineered in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, by Tom Walkinshaw Racing on behalf of Aston Martin. The standard DB7 was powered by a 3.2 litre S6

The V12 Vantage was a new and more powerful variant. launched at the 1999 Geneva Motorshow. Powered by a 5.9 litre, 48-valve, V12 engine produced 420 bhp and 400 lb·ft of torque. Transmissions were available with either a TREMEC T-56 six speed manual or a ZF 5HP30 five speed automatic gearbox. Aston Martin claimed it had a top speed of either 186 mph with the manual gearbox and 165mph for the Automatic, with a 0-60mph time of 4.9seconds for the maual with a weight of 1800kg.

After the launch of the Vantage, sales of the supercharged straight-6 engine DB7 had reduced considerably and so production was ended by mid-1999.
