Last night I was lamenting to my wife Sammy that, for the first time in at least a year, I was going to miss posting an image to Macro Mondays because the topic was Hearts, and I hadn't been able to come up with any macro heart images that I felt were Flickr worthy. So, she stepped out of the room, returned a few seconds later with these origami hearts that a neighbor had left on our front door and asked if these would work. At first I thought no because there was no way I could make a macro out of them, but then I figured, what the heck, they're pretty small, and I could make at least a close-up out of them, thereby keeping my perfect attendance record in tact...

Origami (折り紙?, from ori meaning "folding", and kami meaning "paper" (kami changes to gami due to rendaku) is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding, which started in the 17th century AD at the latest and was popularized outside of Japan in the mid-1900s. It has since then evolved into a modern art form. The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques, and as such the use of cuts or glue are not considered to be origami. Paper cutting and gluing is usually considered kirigami.

Out of these three stars one features just a single pattern (star), another shows two (star+star) and the third combines 3 patterns (star+pinwheel+wreath).

Folded from a single rectangle. I've colored the model using acrylic, creating a vivid aged metal feel - allowing for more depth and aliveness.
I´m in the middle of a metal texture/patina style phase.

Many origami spiders have been designed and folded in the past - Mr. Lang's tarantula, Mr. Brian Chan's Wolf spider , Black Widow by Mr. Petr(origamiPete), Kota Imai's Whip spider- all awesome among many others ! Some of them I could never fold ...so I tried something different :D . I already had a grid prepared..so it didn't take that much time.
