A tiny heart with exceptional detail placed within a miniature jar. All components are worked by hand from glass.
The height is approximately 1 3/4".
I am creating different images to show how different things affect each of your organs.
This is still carrying on from my project on organ donation, showing how people are abusing their own organs in many ways even though there are many people that desperately need them.
I am not saying that you should be an organ donor, or that you shouldn't drink, I just think that most people don't realise how much strain they are putting on their organs when they often binge drink. I have used a heart in the pint for this shot to show how alcohol, if drank excessively, can damage your organs.
The scary thing was, which also brought it home more, was how much the heart changed colour once I had put it in the beer! Before it was a lighter brown and slightly red, but it went white and darker brown after a while in the alcohol, showing how much the heart, as well as other organs, are affected by alcohol.

Henry Ward and Nadey Hakim with the Nephrectomy painting. Nadey is the surgeon in the middle of the painting holding the kidney.
At 11' 6" it is the largest canvas to ever be exhibited at the BP portrait prize. Henry's work was one of 58 to be selected for exhibition in the National Portrait Gallery out of 2,177 entrants.
The painting is to promote organ donation and to support the Istanbul Declaration making donation of organs in return for financial incentives a thing of the past.

Yesterday I had the chance to be with friends, mix with colleagues, find new ones, to sit and debate them, and to literally stand shoulder to shoulder in humbled awe as we paid homage to those who donate their organs.

4 weeks after my Kidney Transplant.
I seem to be recovering well. Although, i'm currently waiting for today's blood results to come back as my results from Saturday clinic have shown my Creatine levels have increased to 128. May have to go in for a scan and some investigations.
I thought it would easy to take a photo but it proved quite difficult. I ended up lying on the bed and clicking away till I got a decent shot.
Just discovered that my pro-account has expired and I cant make any more sets...stupid Flickr :(

* 803 people have donated organs
* an additional 1,626 people have donated corneas
* 2,332 people have received the gift of sight
* 2,283 people have received transplants
* 7,882 people are still waiting for transplants
Supporting organ donation is now easier thanks to a new partnership between BC Transplant and the 61 Service BC locations throughout the province.
Beginning April 1, 2015, British Columbians visiting Service BC Locations have been offered the opportunity to register their decision on organ donation.
Currently, more than 95% of British Columbians support organ donations but only 20% have registered their decision to be a donor. This program will make it easier for those who have yet to sign up.

Never in my life did I ever think I would ever need a transplant. Just over one year on the waiting list and everything is getting harder, physically & mentally.
I've been a nurse for 15yrs & a patient for 13yrs. Help me help you.
Donor rates across the world are low - you never know if it might be you or your loved one on the list one day. Speak to your family about donating your organs when you pass away - make it easier on them during a tragic time. "Donor" on your licence has no legal binding in NZ. Only 1% of people die in the way that organ donation is possible - on a ventilator.
So help me help you spread organ donation awareness so you won't have to, help me help you reduce the waiting list so there is no long wait, help me help you save lives. Reduce the waiting list, Reuse your organs, Recycle your organs time on this earth saving lives.

"It was pretty exciting to throw away our LAST dialysis cartridge yesterday," says Caleb. He is with his girlfriend just before surgery.
Donor liver recipient Mark Williams and donor parent Dotty Pantle holding the “Thanks DMV” sign. Mr. Williams spoke of his experience, and Ms. Pantle spoke of her recently deceased son and the many that benefitted from his being an organ donor.
Today, i received the diabetes-themed pins/buttons and magnets from Beth. I decided to pin one of them to my primary backpack. I always get questions about the other three, so I'm sure I'll get a few questions about the new addition.
The button on top (the blue and red circles) is from Flickr.
The red heart pin is in support of Organ Donation. I'm a firm believer in organ donation (Why take your organs to heaven, when heaven knows we need them here), and do my part to promote the gift of life.
The black button symbolizes my approach to life in general, "What do you want?". It happens to be the motto of an internet-only soap opera produced in Pittsburgh.
And now, there's one more to keep them company, and start new conversations. Thank you, Beth.
There is no cure for diabetes, yet.
