Weather man said its going to snow
By now i should be used to the cold
Mid-February shouldn't be so scary
It was only December
I still remember the presents, the tree, you and me
But you went away
How dare you,I miss you
They say I'll be ok
But im not going to ever get over you
Living alone here in this place
I think of you, and im not afraid
Your favorite records make me feel better
'cause you sing along with every song
I know you didn't mean to give them to me
But you went away
How dare you,I miss you
They say I'll be ok
But im not going to ever get over you
It really sinks in,you know
When I see it in stone
'cause you went away
How dare you, I miss you
They say I'll be ok
But im not going to ever get over you

Celebrating 4 years of the gift of life!
you would never know by this photo that this is an adult. a mother. i was immediatley drawn to her absolutely adorable fun socks. she proceeded with "they were my daughters"..."and so are the shoes, and my shirt". she is a petite woman. her daughter was the young age of 13 when she was killed. she was used as a human shield during a shooting. her daughter spoke to her about organ donation just a few weeks before her death. "momma, i want to be an organ donor!" and her mother followed through with her wishes. her story was very hard for me, for any mother. her strength and her tears are a part of me now. her daughter was her joy. how appropriate that the bench held the word joy on it! donate life. be a miracle. you may need a miracle.
Great to see attention drawn to organ donation with a pink Eastgate Clock. Check out www.organdonation.nhs.uk/ for more information.

it is truly a life moment when you meet a person and they fill the air up with their happiness and zest for life! this gentleman was the first dual transplant at duke at the young age of 33. and look how many years he has been given since ;o) he was so proud of that, so proud of every breath he takes, knew he was given this second chance for a reason. to make a difference himself. loving his every moment. a true inspiration. a reminder to grab a hold of your day and love it no matter what...and living proof that donating life makes a miracle happen! for many, not just one... i love how his hands told the story ;o)
They are here today because someone said "yes" to organ donation. Mohan received his heart 25 years ago. The love of his life includes his two daughters and wife. Justin had his heart transplant one year ago. At 17 years old, Justin already published a cookbook called "Justin's Hearty Recipes".
Grateful to all organ donors and their families for their consent.
Check "Yes" for organ donation on DMV website in USA.
Someone is alive today because someone said "yes" to organ and tissue donation. One donor can save and heal up to eight lives through organ donation.
In USA, you can register to be an organ and tissue donor at your state department of motor vehicles. Be sure to share your decision with family and friends.

I should really go back and take a picture in late summer when the bed will be full of form and colour.

When "Pig At Heart" May Mean More Time To Live & Love - IMRAN™
Being a Muslim, I do not eat pig-products. I truly hate the smell of things like bacon popular in non-Muslim countries. But, even Muslims understand that such dietary restrictions, or choices, can be set aside for medical purposes (e.g. I don't drink but alcohol being part of let's say some cough syrup is acceptable use).
During my University of Cambridge O' and A' Levels studies, in Pakistan, I could not stand to study biology, when my late father was insistent on trying to make me become a doctor. But, I love following developments in the fields of medicine and healthcare, especially as my field, technology, plays a deeper and more critical role in every aspect of them.
Like most men, I have probably also been called a pig at heart... though mine is a heart full of pure love, and, sure, maybe an extra dose of lust and desire. But, that is life!
These are the reasons that some recent news and a story in WIRED magazine were so interesting. Like a good TV show or movie it brought all the story arcs above into one dramatic climax, no piggish pun intended.
It involved the successful transplant of a pig's genetically modified heart into a man. As a donated organ the pig's heart kept a man in extremely grave health from his grave -- for at least 60-days. At the end of one's life I am certain that I would gladly take even 60-extra minutes, what to say of 60-extra days, alive. I would take it even just to be able to tell the ones I love how much and how deeply I would love them for eternity. Knowing myself, I would likely quip, "You will be in my pig's heart forever!"
Jokes aside, I love how genetics, medical science, and technology are helping the rapid advances in this field called xenotransplantation. Doubling the irony of a pig's heart giving a man a chance to live and love longer, was the fact that one of the primary surgeons doing the operation was a Muslim. Although I am sure somewhere some extremist rabbi or priest would be delivering fiery sermons on how this is not kosher or halal. But I bet if their own lives could be extended they would rush to become pig farmers.
Going back to the science, versus the dogma, check out the story in WIRED at the link below. "Here’s What’s Next for Pig Organ Transplants": www.wired.com/story/heres-whats-next-for-pig-organ-transp... Other similar operations have allowed pig's kidneys to be used in other patients.
An interesting era lies ahead.... when being a "pig at heart" may not be such a bad thing. What do you think of these developments? Would you accept a pig's heart to save your life?

My wife Susie was an organ donor and when she passed away "Miracles in Sight" were able to use both of her full eyes. Today I came home to find a surprise package from Miracles in Sight -- a beautiful afghan and thank you note. I really appreciate this gift - a wonderful reminder of the good my wife's passing was able to pay forward. Please consider organ donation if you aren't already a donor. Good things happen when you are.

John Talbot is being honored on the Donate Life float in the 2014 Tournament of Roses parade. The float features artistic memorial floragraphs honoring those who have given the gift of life through organ donation. This year John's picture will be one of the 81 floragraphs featured on the float.
John's mom Merry asked us to attend and take some pictures at the event in St. Louis to put the finishing touches on the floragraph before it is sent to Pasadena for the parade. This is one of my favorite pictures of the event.

A seven year-old boy from California, Nicholas Green, was killed by highway robbers in 1994 while vacationing in Italy with his family. His parents agreed to donate his organs and corneas, which went to seven Italians waiting for transplants. Reg and Maggie Green spoke openly to the media, with no bitterness, about their loss and decision. The world took the story--and the Greens--to its heart. Organ donations in Italy have quadrupled since Nicholas was killed so that thousands of people are alive who would have died.
The children's bell tower in Bodega Bay is a magical place. It stands on open ground, a thick growth of cypress trees on one side and green hills on the other. In the background are high dunes and a tantalizing glimpse of the ocean. The tower is 18 feet high, three tubular steel pyramids from which hang 140 bells, almost all of them sent by Italians: school bells, church bells, ships' bells, mining bells, cow bells. The centerpiece is a majestic bell, thirty inches high, from the Marinelli foundry in Italy, which has been making bells for the papacy for a thousand years. Nicholas' name and the names of the seven recipients are on it, and Pope John Paul II went to the foundry to bless it. Whenever the wind blows, as it often does on this exposed coast, the bells chime, sometimes a few at a time, emphasizing the solitude of the surroundings, sometimes an entire orchestra, sounding like happy children at play. Then the sound fades away, and the children are gone.
The Bell Memorial in Bodega Bay, California
Although it was inspired by Nicholas' death, the tower was designed to be a memorial accessible to everyone a place where children would feel at ease. Its delicacy reflects both the preciousness and fragility of young life. Many families visit it to give thanks for their children, others find some solace for a loss.
The bell tower was conceived and built by a San Francisco sculptor, Bruce Hasson. It is on the west side of Route 1, 1 1/2 miles north of Bodega Bay.

I like the way that some of these pictures have come out.
This one is quite simple, but I wanted some simple pictures just to show the subject of the picture.

At age 72, some might assume Abbotsford resident Jerry Brown is embracing retirement – however, they’d be wrong. Rather than hitting the golf links, Jerry is happily immersed in his busy financial career while also spending quality time with his wife, his children and his grandchildren, all thanks to the kidney transplant he received 17 years ago.

After a year of concerted efforts to boost Uk organ donation rates, the number of people agreeing to donate their organs after death is growing. But it is still at a lower rate that it's required to be. Infographic taken from Next Generation Healthcare EU online.
15 Jun 2016: A sculpture commemorating all of those people who have given the gift of life through organ donation was unveiled today at the Botanic Gardens in Belfast. The “Candle Sculpture” was gifted to the City of Belfast and the local organ donation community by the Galway Civic Trust on behalf of the City of Galway, highlighting the strong cross border links in increasing awareness of organ donation.
The “Candle” was commissioned by the organ donation community in Northern Ireland from Strange Boat Donor Foundation which created the Circle of Life National Organ Donor Commemorative Garden located in Salthill Galway.

Photographed in the entry way of the Buckboard Restaurant
Lakeville Minnesota
December 10th 2016
One thing that I've noticed in my travels around small town America is that in the smaller towns and cities you find bulletin boards in the entry ways of restaurants and gas station These are where you see business cards and ads for help wanted or even postings for pets for sale
This is the first time I've ever seen a plea for an organ donation. I hope whomever needs a kidney gets one, Unfortunately I'm not this person's blood type. I am however on the organ donor list and I have been since I was 16 years old.
I've notified my family that if something happens to me I would like to donate my organs. I wont be needing them and I figure that if somebody can use them I would be more than happy to donate
Jenna was one of the lucky ones, a living donor gave her the gift of a kidney Jan. 16, 2007. But over 80,000 people are still waiting for kidneys in the US.
Jenna is wearing a new t-shirt "Dying for a Kidney" custom designed by tattoo artist Brian Wren from Brooklyn, NY, to help raise awareness for organ donation. The proceeds from the online store benefit our patient forum at www.ihatedialysis.com! To purchase similar items please go to www.cafepress.com/ihatedialysis

I posted this quite a while ago. When I posted it, I also blogged and used it for a blog post about a sad thing that happened at work. It was about organ donation and the first words out a fathers mouth when he was told, over the phone that his son had died. "You must take his organs, something good has to come of this..."as family members screamed and cried in the background. The human race has such a compasity for strength. It is just that we all don't use it.

ODC2 - New ( as in new chance of life)
01/01/12
More people should become organ donors IMO. Could you give someone a greater gift then a second chance of life, a chance for someone to see their children grow up or a chance for a child to grow up. I know for sure that if any of my children would ever need a new organ to be able to get that chance, I would not hesitate for even a moment to put them on the waiting list. It is just so sad to hear about all the people that die while waiting for a new organ when they could have been given a new chance of life...if only there were more organ donors.
