The "new" order on Arriva's routes 86 and 87 in Leicester. This Alexander ALX400 bodied DAF DB250 was new to Arriva London, as fleet number DLA292, in May 2001. It has just entered service at Wigston depot, in Leicestershire, where it has ousted a 2 year old Enviro 200 single-decker. It's a bit of a kick in the teeth bringing in vehicles which are 11 years senior than those they're replacing and the reason isn't altogether clear, but I would speculate that it's one (or a combination) of the following:
1) Passenger numbers are too high on the routes for the Enviro 200s to cope with (assuming the timetable is reliable).
2) The timetable is not robust enough to deliver a reliable and punctual service. As a consequence, the buses on the services bunch up meaning that the first little Enviro 200 to turn up takes a hammering. Yes, it's a capacity problem but slightly different from point one as the resources aren't being efficiently used.
3) The traffic calming humps around Eyres Monsell are still problematic to the Enviro 200s, causing damage to skirt panels and the like.
The iBus database tells us that this bus was last used in London service on 03/01/2013, when it worked on route 243 (Wood Green - Waterloo via Stamford Hill and Dalston). Sister buses noted in service for the first time from Wigston, on 07/03/2014, included:
4803 - Y485 UGC (formerly DLA285) on services 86 / 87.
4806 - X502 GGO (formerly DLA230) on services 47 / 48.
As the title says, my first bricklink order arrived! I was going to post a video first, but Flickr didn't let me upload it. Anyway, this is what I ordered: 40 Flame Pieces, Two Lightsaber Blades, Two Fleshie Heads (One Asoka from PoP, one Rebel Pilot dude), and Four New Phase II Torso's.
I am really happy with them, and the store is rather cheap too! The store is Dutch, it took only two days for me to get everything. Definately a recommended place to order!
One more thing: Guys, I am in desperate need of Battle Droids. I only have two at the moment, and five clones versus two battle droids seems a bit unfair :3

This was the first night of trying out the Olympus EM-5 in very low-lit conditions. Hit a bar in Lower Queen Anne, Seattle. Ordered myself a drink and grabbed a shot of the girls working the bar. The high ISO capabilities of this camera are outstanding (this shot @ ISO 4000). Combined with the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 25mm f/1.4 you can easily shoot in the most demanding lighting conditions.

Looking towards the front entrance in this picture, as viewed from a spot along the right-hand actionway adjacent to women’s apparel. Not sure how it has been on my photostream, but it feels like in person, at least, I start my visits at this store walking this way like 95% of the time, so it feels weird *ending* this visit here! In the background you can see the construction at the vestibule area, like we saw when we entered.

These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)
So I ordered a good $13 on parts for my GOW King Raven, stryker that will be updated, and some tan plates for my BF MOC. Overall, good buy IMO. Took me hours to find the right store to get everything though :) Back to building!
took this photo for my concentration and it reminded me of the colourful screen when there is nothing on the channel

We’re continuing to ensure we’re prepared to keep you safe at the thousand-plus large-scale events that we police in Greater Manchester every year with the specialist training of hundreds of our officers.
Our rigorous week-long public order training programme has been nationally-recognised as properly equipping us for a whole variety of events – such as sporting fixtures, festivals, carnivals, and protests – to maintain order in circumstances where there is a risk to ourselves and the public.
Each year we police around 1200 such events in GM that mostly pass without any significant incident; however, we ensure that in the rare instances issues do arise, we have officers specially trained in maintaining order with the tactics and skills to keep the wider public and our officers safe.
As well as putting 500 new officers through their paces every year, we have many more experienced officers who also go through the intensive course to refresh their knowledge and skills so that we have the necessary number of qualified cops to be deployed to such big events.
Chief Inspector Kirsten Buggy, of our Specialist Operational Training, People and Development Branch said: “All our officers will police major events given the nature of serving for one of the largest communities in the country, but we also ensure that a high amount of those officers is trained in using the enhanced tactics that may be needed on some occasions.
“Part of the training our officers do here is very-much a last resort and can seem excessive to some, but we’ve seen in the past how valuably important it is that we can call on such an insurance policy for the rare situations where public order needs to be regained and maintained to keep you safe.
“This is the kind of policing that goes to show just how brave and committed our officers are at being on the front line and doing what they can to keep communities safe from those who may look to cause harm, and year-on-year we’re making sure that more of our officers gain the experience that this vital training can offer to the benefit of us all.”
We’re currently recruiting more officers than ever – fancy joining our team too? Find out how you can here: www.gmp.police.uk/recruitment

In the year 2057 the world is ruled by a mysterious council called The Order. The Order banned all sorts of things from almost all technology and owning weapons to laughter. Those who disobey the laws are dealt with swiftly by The Templars, the military branch of Order. People are sick of Order and rumor has it that people are starting to rebel. Lucky Bamboo stalks tied with red ribbon symbolizing fire, Kept on the wooden and glass table, in a glass bowl with water.
Common name: Good Luck Bamboo
Scientific classification:
Kingdom: Plantae
(unranked): Angiosperms
(unranked): Monocots
Order: Asparagales
Family: Ruscaceae
Genus: Dracaena
Species: D. sanderiana
Binomial name: Dracaena sanderiana
If you are looking for a plant that is beautiful, easy to grow and symbolizes good fortune,
a Lucky Bamboo plant is the perfect choice. Known as Lucky Bamboo for centuries, this tough
resilient plant is actually Dracaena sanderiana, a member of the lily family. A tropical plant,
it is native to the rain forests of Cameroon, Africa and Southeast Asia.
Lucky Bamboo and Feng Shui:
One of the most popular feng shui cures, Lucky Bamboo activates stagnant energy and enhances the flow of
positive energy, or auspicious chi, throughout your home or workplace.
An important part of feng shui, lucky bamboo plants are
said to bring good luck and fortune, especially if the plants were given as gifts.
It is important to take proper care of your Lucky Bamboo ensuring its health and vitality.
A strong symbol of good luck, Lucky Bamboo signifies good fortune, health and prosperity.
Used in feng shui, a plant usually has a combination of all the five elements which include:
* Wood - The bamboo plant
* Earth - The stones or pebbles
* Metal - The container itself (if it is made of glass is a metal element) or you can attach a small
metal figure or coin to the container
* Water - The water in which the Lucky Bamboo plant grows
* Fire - A red ribbon tied around the bamboo stalks or the container itself
The Meaning of the Number of Stalks:
Each beautiful arrangement of Lucky Bamboo has a specific number of stalks.
According to traditions dating from the ancient Chinese, the number of stalks in a bamboo arrangement
has a significant meaning and affects different areas of your life.
* One stalk - A meaningful and simple life and overall good fortune
* Two stalks - Happy relationships, luck in love and double luck
* Three stalks - Happiness, prosperity and longevity
* Three stalks with a curly stalk in the middle - Wealth (the curly stalk signifies money)
* Four stalks - Creativity and successful academic achievement and good luck with love
* Five stalks - A balance of good luck in all aspects of life, a life of happiness, each stalk
represents one of the five parts of life.
* Six stalks - A flow of good luck, easy money and wealth from favorable conditions
* Seven stalks - Good luck in relationships; good health
* Eight stalks - Fertility and good luck to thrive and grow
* Nine stalks - Overall good health, prosperity and a successful love life
* Ten stalks - A complete and fulfilling life
* Eleven stalks - General good luck in all aspects of life
* Twenty-one stalks - Offers an all purpose blessing that is very powerful
* A Lucky Log - Lucky Bamboo leaves keep sprouting from the log signifying a strong life.
This is a popular way of wishing someone a strong successful life or a prosperous business.
Lucky or not, bamboo or not, a Lucky Bamboo plant is very elegant and attractive, and extremely easy to care for.
These tough stalks can survive in vases of pure water or in soil, and in a wide variety of light conditions.
Even a poorly kept lucky bamboo plant will live for a long time before it finally succumbs.
Light: Lucky bamboo prefer bright, filtered sunlight, such as found under a rain forest canopy.
Avoid direct sunlight as it will scorch the leaves. They are more tolerant of too little light
than too much.
Watering: Lucky bamboo can grow indefinitely in a simple vase filled with pebbles (for support) and
at least an inch of water. However, they are very sensitive to chlorine and other chemicals
commonly found in tap water. Water your lucky bamboo only with bottled or distilled water,
or tap water that has been left out for 24 hours to allow the chlorine to evaporate.
Healthy lucky bamboo roots are red, so don't be alarmed in a glass vase if you can see red roots.
Finally, good hygiene recommends that you change the water weekly.
Temperature: Lucky bamboo likes warmer temperatures of between 65ºF and 90ºF. Do not place the plants in
front of air conditioning or heating vents.
Potting Media: In addition to water, lucky bamboo can be grown in a well-drained, rich potting soil.
Keep the soil moist, but not soaking.
Fertilizer: Plants grown in water will only need to be fed every other month or so,
using a very weak liquid fertilizer. A single drop of liquid fertilizer is plenty for most
lucky bamboo arrangements. Alternatively, specialty lucky bamboo fertilizers are available.
Curly Lucky Bamboo Stalks
Lucky Bamboo stalks do not naturally grow with curls, spirals or waves. To get straight stalks to grow
into exotic and fancy shapes, growers use special techniques that force the stalks to grow in various
directions.
Dracaena sanderiana is a species of the genus Dracaena. The species was named after the German-English
gardener, Henry Frederick Conrad Sander (1847-1920). It is also known as Dracaena braunii,
Ribbon Dracaena, Lucky Bamboo, Belgian Evergreen or sometimes Ribbon Plant.

Physical characteristics
Wood Ducks are intermediate in size, between the Mallard and Blue-winged Teal; on average, males weigh 680 g and females weigh 460 g. From a distance, the male Wood Duck on the water appears as a dark-bodied, dark-breasted, light-flanked duck with a striped crested head and a light-coloured throat. At close range, its iridescent plumage, red eyes, and black, red, and white bill are conspicuous. A white eye-ring, light-coloured throat, and fine crest distinguish the female from both the male Wood Duck and females of other species. Both sexes usually show a downward pointing crest at the back of the head, and their long broad square tails are distinctive features in flight.
The wings of Wood Ducks are highly characteristic. The primary wing feathers, which are the 10 outermost flight feathers attached to the wing beyond the wrist, are dark in colour. The outer vanes of these feathers look as if they have been sprayed with aluminum paint. The Wood Duck is the only North American duck so marked.
In most cases it is possible to distinguish immature from mature ducks and to tell males from females by their wings alone. In the Wood Duck, as in other ducks, the feathers of that year's young are finer, more pointed and worn, and less colourful than those of adults. Females show a few small feathers on the upper surface of the wing that are purplish and have the same lustre as oil on water. These feathers are absent in males. The white tips on the feathers along the trailing edge of the wing are usually teardrop-shaped in the female, but either straight or V-shaped in the male. By studying the wings of ducks taken by hunters, biologists can determine the ratio of young to adult ducks in the population and thereby measure waterfowl production.
The Wood Duck is a distinctively North American species. Its only close relative is the Mandarin Duck of eastern Asia. Evidently the Wood Duck originated in North America, as fossil remains have been found only in widely scattered locations in the eastern part of the continent.
Habitat
Like other perching ducks, Wood Ducks nest in trees. Preferred nesting sites are holes in hollow trunks or large branches that result from broken limbs, fire scars, lightning and logging damage. They also use cavities created by large woodpeckers such as the Pileated Woodpecker. Nests are situated from 1 to 15 m above ground, in trees more than 40 cm in diameter. They are usually found close to water, although females sometimes select trees some distance from water.
Other details
In Canada, the Wood Duck nests in scattered locations in the southern parts of all provinces; however, there is only one breeding record for Newfoundland and Labrador. The most extensive breeding ranges are in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and British Columbia. This duck occurs over a much wider area in late summer and early autumn, as a result of post-breeding dispersal. Although most Wood Ducks migrate to the United States, a few may spend the winter in extreme southern Ontario and southeastern British Columbia.
The Wood Duck is much more widely distributed in the United States, where it nests in areas east of the Mississippi River, along the lower Missouri River into South Dakota, in eastern Texas, along the Pacific coast, and in a few other places. It winters mainly along the Atlantic coast from New York south, along the Gulf coast into central Texas, to the lower Mississippi River valley and western California. A few winter in Mexico south to Distrito Federal. In Europe all sightings are of escaped birds.
Feeding
The Wood Duck is mainly a herbivore, or vegetarian, with plant foods making up about 90 percent of its diet. Foods vary according to their local availability, but duckweeds, cypress seeds, sedges, grasses, pondweeds, and acorns are among the more important foods throughout North America. In recent years corn has assumed a greater importance as small groups of Wood Ducks engage in field feeding behaviour similar to that of dabbling ducks, such as Mallards.
Ducklings require a high protein diet for rapid growth. Invertebrates such as dragonflies, bugs, beetles, and spiders are important foods during the first few weeks of life, so high populations of these small creatures are essential in habitats where the young will hatch and develop.
Conservation
This species has a large range, with an estimated global Extent of Occurrence of 6,200,000 km². It has a large global population estimated to be 3,500,000 individuals (Wetlands International 2002). Global population trends have not been quantified, but the species is not believed to approach the thresholds for the population decline criterion of the IUCN Red List (i.e. declining more than 30% in ten years or three generations). For these reasons, the species is evaluated as Least Concern. [conservation status from birdlife.org]
Breeding
The female Wood Duck breeds when one year old. She lines the nest with down, or fine feathers, taken from her breast, and lays eight to 15 dull-white to cream-coloured eggs. She incubates, or keeps the eggs warm, for 28 to 30 days until they hatch. During unusually cold weather, or if the female is away from the nest for an abnormally long time, incubation may require a few extra days.
Upon hatching, usually in June in eastern Canada, the young use their sharp claws to climb up the inside of the nesting cavity to its entrance, then jump and flutter to the ground, generally landing unharmed. The female guides them to the nearest water, where they will spend the next eight to nine weeks hunting for food together.
Shortly after the female begins incubation the male loses interest in family affairs and spends more time away from the nest. He joins other males, which eventually form large groups. As mid-summer approaches, the males begin the move to remote, undisturbed, sheltered places to moult, or shed old feathers. To reach these areas, they may travel great distances; many thousands migrate to southeastern Canada from breeding grounds in the northern states. On arrival the moult begins, and by August the brilliant spring feathers of the male have been replaced by a plumage similar to that of the female. Then, all at once, the flight feathers are moulted, leaving the male flightless for approximately four weeks while new feathers grow in.
Soon after the ducklings have fledged, or taken their first flight, usually by mid-August in eastern Canada, the females leave their broods, move a short distance, and undergo their moult. Like the males, they too seek out remote, undisturbed swamps and marshes and become flightless for a short period.
In late summer and early autumn, the young with their newly acquired powers of flight and the adults with their recently replaced flight feathers move in a leisurely way about the northern parts of their range. Their principal concern is to store up energy, in the form of fat, in preparation for the soon-to-come fall migration.
Migration
Wood Ducks migrate north to their Canadian breeding grounds, arriving there by April. Pair formation may occur on the wintering grounds before or during spring migration, or on the breeding grounds if one of the pair is lost. Mated pairs seek out secluded swamps or beaver ponds that provide water, nesting sites, brooding habitat, and feeding areas. Females often return to the same general area in which they were hatched.
By the first severe frost, usually in late September or early October in eastern Canada, Wood Ducks begin to head for the southeastern United States. Southern populations of Wood Ducks, particularly females, are less migratory. Populations in the interior of British Columbia migrate to the west coast, whereas Wood Ducks that live on the coast do not migrate at all. Has occurred Bermuda (regular), Azores and Alaska. Many sightings from Europe, presumed escapes.

The Order of Solomon's Seal was the second highest and oldest order of the Ethiopian Empire (Emperor Tewodros II awarded the first order during the 1860's). The Order was given to the Emperor and Empress, the Crown Prince and Princess, and the male members of the Imperial family, the as well as Christian heads of state around the world.
The Cordon was an Emerald Green Sash worn from the right shoulder to the left hip with the plaque hanging at the left hip. In the highest grade of this order, the cross in the middle of the star was enameled green on both the plaque and the breast star. Lower grades were plain gold with no green enamel.
This is part of a multi story front facade to the Wintergarden shopping area in Brisbanes city centre, facing the main mall. The refurbishment of this centre has taken a few years, and cost about $100M. I have yet to go inside.
Some very highly paid marketing executive advises -
The facade is designed to provide a coherent identity and unique exuberance to the Wintergarden, whilst allowing the distinct retail and lifestyle offerings of the rejuvenated centre to be celebrated and differentiated.
It is presented in a double layer cut metal facade screen suspended in front of the building's facades.
The facade is populated with myriad swarms of flora and fauna, and informed by geometry from biological, geological and mathematical origins.
Pattern themes within this mega order are developed to enhance and reflect the elegance and simplicity, the beauty and complexity, and ultimately the rich diversity of life.
Doesn't that make you want to take the plastic for a walk through the Wintergarden.
It appears that there will be or is an elaborate lighting display associated with this, so I may have to do mission there to capture that at some point.
All jokes aside, despite the fact that it looks like it was put together from the trimmings of a sheetmetal shop, it looked rather impressive.
HELP DEFEAT ARIZONA'S ANTI-GAY MARRIAGE AMENDMENT...
If you live in Arizona, please vote NO on Proposition 102. I am voting NO because of what the Arizona Senate did in order to put this measure on the ballot. And also because it's just simply WRONG.
Here is a link of the video on YouTube showing what had happened in the AZ Senate.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=YATXI0sOGKk
They broke their own rules in order to force the anti-gay marriage amendment vote which happened on June 27, 2008. I am not proud of how the AZ Senate handled itself in regard to this issue.
Here is a post that my partner did on his blog about what happened:
A Shameful, Corrupted Vote To Send Anti-Gay Marriage Amendment To November Ballot!
Here is a quote from Equality Arizona:
"Tonight's debate was intense for everyone on the Senate floor and those of us watching in the gallery. But what happened to our openly-gay Senators by their colleagues was absolutely disgusting. Senate extremists strategically broke the rules of the Senate, which govern the processes for discussion and voting on bills. During a filibuster-like discussion on another bill during Committee of the Whole, Majority Leader Thayer Verschoor (R-22) and Majority Whip John Huppenthal (R-20), among others, devised a scheme with committee chairman Jack Harper (R-4) to outright violate the rules of the Senate and the rights of Senators Aboud and Cheuvront.
In the middle of their discussion, Senator Harper turned off the microphones of Senators Paula Aboud (D-28) and Ken Cheuvront (D-15) and called on the Majority Leader to make a motion. Then, when Senators Aboud and Cheuvront loudly called for a Point of Order several times, even walking to the front desk where Senator Harper sat, he deliberately ignored their calls. To add insult to injury, these people attempted to justify their actions, even after the Senate President and other Senators admonished them for deliberately breaking the rules. Tonight's actions of these and other Senators have forever tainted that body, and it's important that we all let the people of Arizona know how these individuals acted so unethically."
And a quote from my partner's blog posting:
"To give you an example of how breathtakingly two-faced and idiotic the extremist became - earlier they voted against a proposal by Meg Burton-Cahill (D) to make the capitol more accessible to the handicapped even after assuring her, prior to the session, that voting for the measure was "no problem." This clearly smacked of political pay-back for her strong and vocal opposition to the marriage amendment. Following this debacle, Senator Ken Cheuvront (D), who is openly gay, proposed a ban on the sale and use of plastic coverings that slip over license plates and obscure the numbers when a picture is taken of someone speeding. Breaking the law and getting away with it is the sole purpose for these coverings but the Senate Republicans (who are the majority) chose to ignore the logic of the proposal and voted it down. They obviously wanted to "put these people in their place" and couldn't have cared less about the handicapped or the lawbreakers (who, by the way, have been clocked at speeds as high as 120 mph). This is extremism run amok."
I hope you will ACT now and help defeat this measure that the AZ Senate cowardly forced through. If you can donate money or volunteer your time please click HERE. This will take you to thee Vote NO on Prop 102 website.
