All cars are equal but some cars (taking two parking spaces) are more equal than others.

Dunlins and at least one Black-bellied Plover (the larger bird in the background, right).

(I had misidentified these as Western Sandpipers, but the particularly long drooping bill marks these as Dunlins.)

Going through yet another slow order, RUPO is seen passing the switch at Den behind a trio of GP40s at a blistering 10 mph. This switch was previously known as Fairgrounds East, but was renamed to Den as part of general renaming of several sidings on the old Maine Central.

In order to get sunset pictures, the water taxis I took, speed out to the open waters of the lagoon that surrounds Venice! The sun's glow filled the sky and the water.

This is the second new panorama which I editied in 2020 from a very atmospheric evening near to the summit of Montscheinspitze, Karwendel. In order to get that wide view I was merging 3 hand held shots taken in landscape orientation with the 28 mm lens.

A dragonfly is an insect belonging to the order Odonata, suborder Anisoptera (from Greek ανισος anisos "uneven" + πτερος pteros, "wings", because the hindwing is broader than the forewing). Adult dragonflies are characterized by large multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong transparent wings, sometimes with coloured patches, and an elongated body. Dragonflies can be mistaken for the related group, damselflies (Zygoptera), which are similar in structure though usually lighter in build; however, the wings of most dragonflies are held flat and away from the body, while damselflies hold the wings folded at rest, along or above the abdomen. Dragonflies are agile fliers while damselflies have a weaker, fluttery flight. Many dragonflies have brilliant iridescent or metallic colours produced by structural coloration, making them conspicuous in flight. An adult dragonfly eye has nearly 24,000 ommatidia.

Dragonflies are predators, both in their aquatic larval stage, when they are known as nymphs or naiads, and as adults. Several years of their life are spent as a nymph living in freshwater; the adults may be on the wing for just a few days or weeks. They are fast agile fliers, sometimes migrating across oceans, and are often but not always found near water.

The Schwedenturm is located on the southwest side of Mainau Island, near the wine trail and the arboretum.

"1558" stands above the entrance of the tower. This suggests that the slender Swedish tower was built in the 16th century as a watchtower towards the mainland. However, the pyramidal roof and the wood paneling date back to the 19th century. The coat of arms of the Teutonic Order and Commander Georg von Gemmingen can also be found on the tower. In the Thirty Years' War, Swedish troops occupied the island and robbed everything except for a cross (Schwedenkreuz). The tower and the cross got their names during this time.
