It's even got a fancy name-- an optical refractor.
Apparently yes they do. The fancy computerized one that estimates vision? Evidently they still call it just an estimate, despite the fact that they charge you extra for it. I suppose you pay for your optometrist's trained eye and advanced degree and all that... ;-)
And hey, it's more advanced than the metal picks and scrapers they use at the dentists' office. o_0

I went to the optometrist today to update my prescription and get new frames.
This friendly fellow is called a phoropter (or optical refractor if you wanna drop the pretense.)
