In order to absorb the extremely high-powered X-rays coming from the Advanced Photon Source, materials with the best combination of high conductivity and high strength are used. Pure copper (upper half of photograph) is used for its ability to conduct heat. Dispersion hardened copper (lower half of photograph) is used for strength.
