Police in Bolton have today arrested 15 people in connection with drug dealing in the borough.

This morning’s warrants, which targeted those suspected of selling Class A drugs in the town centre at night time, follow months of intelligence gathering and planning by police in Bolton.

More than 20 raids were carried out in the early hours of Thursday 10 September 2015, in areas across Bolton including Halliwell, Breightmet and Stoneclough, organised by officers from Bolton’s Operation Challenger team, which is a specialist team targeting those involved in organised criminal activity.

More than 200 officers from various units across GMP were involved in the raids, in which 13 men have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs. A man and a woman were also arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis. Another man was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a police officer.

They have been taken into police custody and will be questioned by detectives later today.

Quantities of cannabis and cocaine were recovered from several addresses and a firearm was seized from a property in Halliwell.

Superintendent Andrea Jones from GMP’s Bolton division said: “This morning’s arrests are the result of the community standing shoulder to shoulder with the police to take a strong stance against those involved in drug related activity in Bolton.

“The warrants carried out today are just the first phase of this operation, which will now see us working with local partner agencies including housing, licensing, revenue and customs and other departments to see if people are in breach of local authority housing agreements, benefit fraud, business licenses etc.

“The work of organised crime groups is constantly changing in their attempt to stay ahead of the police, and Operation Challenger sees GMP working together with other agencies to tackle serious and organised crime, so that all aspect of criminals’ lives are targeted, making it much harder for organised crime groups to operate.

“We cannot do this alone though and we need the public’s support to continue to provide us with information about illegal activity in their neighbourhood. I would like to thank our communities across Bolton for their support so far and assure people that this is not just a one off in tackling those blighting our night time economy in the town centre and surrounding areas.”

Programme Challenger was launched in Greater Manchester in 2012 and has become internationally recognised as a good model of effective organised crime policing. The operation has now been launched in Bolton and through collaboration with partner agencies and the general public, Challenger uses various intelligence-led methods to disrupt and dismantle organised crime groups across Bolton and Greater Manchester.

Anyone with information that they wish to pass to the Operation Challenger team in Bolton is asked to contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously with information on 0800 555 111.

Arrests were made as part of a crackdown on the supply of Class A drugs in Trafford.

On Friday 9 November 2018, officers executed a warrant at a bar off Chelford Road in Sale.

The co-ordinated action was part of Operation Challenger - GMP’s force-wide targeting of organised crime.

It involved partner working including Trafford Council and a large quantity of suspect cocaine has been recovered.

Two men aged 27 and 28 were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Detective Sergeant Adam Ayling from GMP’s Trafford Division said: “We are committed to systematically rooting out and dismantling groups and individuals that seek to profit from supplying drugs.

“Narcotics ruin lives. Proceeds from the sale of drugs are used to further organised crime which blights communities.

“We now have two people in custody as a result of the hard work of our dedicated officers, together with the support of our partners.

“I want to thank our local communities, as without them working with us and reporting crime, we wouldn’t be able to carry out successful operations such as this.

“This raid demonstrates our commitment to eradicating drugs from our streets.

“I would continue to urge people to report any suspicious activity to police so that we can stop criminals benefitting from organised crime and drugs supply.

“If you know about drugs supply in your community - report it.”

A large quantity of suspected cocaine has been recovered.

Anyone with information on drugs supply should contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

“Additionally, we have a further person in custody for drugs offences.

“These raids came as the result of extensive intelligence gathering and show our determination in dismantling organised crime networks who commit these kinds of crimes.

“Today’s operation is a response to various types of ATM attacks– including those which use gas explosions to access monies, endangering the lives of anyone caught nearby.

“While the vast majority of people in Greater Manchester work hard for their rewards in life, a small minority think it acceptable to try and shortcut their way via acts of criminality.

“We will do everything in our power to catch and prosecute organised criminals whose offending blights our communities.

“If you believe someone to be involved in criminality, contact police immediately. Your actions will help prevent innocent people becoming the victims of crime.”

Six men have been arrested after raids this morning in Bury and Tameside.

Today (Tuesday 17 October 2017) GMP officers searched a number of properties in Bury, Tameside and Cheetham Hill as part of an investigation into the unlawful sale of medicine and controlled drugs online.

Code-named Operation Pyarr, several million pounds worth of pharmaceutical drugs have been seized in today’s investigation into the multi-million pound international fraud operation.

The investigation has been carried out by the Medicine and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority who are responsible for ensuring that medicines and medical devices are acceptably safe, in conjunction with Bury Police and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

A total of six men were arrested on suspicion of supplying Class C drugs and remain in police custody for questioning.

Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Cadden of GMP’s Bury Borough, said: “We have spent the past few months identifying where the public are able to get hold of these controlled drugs, and uncovering who is responsible.

“From our investigation, it is clear that this is a comprehensive operation, with genuine pharmaceuticals being unlawfully removed from the supply chain in the UK and then sold, illegally, online.

“While we have made arrests, we are continuing with our investigation and are committed to finding those who facilitate the supply of illegal substances in Greater Manchester.

“I’m asking for the public to continue to report anything suspicious to the police, and ensure that we can look after the public who are taken in by drugs that they believe are legal.”

Operation AVRO is a forcewide initiative that delivers a surge of extra resources and specialist officers to a different district within Greater Manchester each month.

This month saw the operation take place in Wigan.

The operation targets crimes that members of the public in that district have told us give them the most concern.

Members of the press and key partners, including local representatives, are invited to attend Operation AVRO deployments to see results first-hand and conduct important multi-agency work, such as welfare visits.

More details on AVRO can be found by visiting gmp.police.uk and following us on social media.

You should call 101, the national non-emergency number, to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response.

Police seized 41 vehicles during a two-day traffic operation earlier this week.

Officers were out in force with partner agencies as part of Operation Unity, which targeted a range of offences on the roads.

Twelve vehicles were seized for being used illegally in the UK, 24 vehicles were seized for no insurance, two were seized for being driven without a licence and three were seized by the DVLA.

Police also issued 100 Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) to motorists, including 43 to drivers using a mobile phone and 16 for seatbelt offences.

One vehicle was dealt with for red diesel, six taxi drivers were suspended and a 50-year old man was arrested on suspicion of two robberies in Tameside and remains in police custody for questioning.

Sergeant Garry Lyle from GMP’s Traffic Enforcement Unit said: “Partners and officers came together over the last two days to target offenders and send a stark reminder out to motorists that we will not let them compromise the safety of others on our roads.

“The Traffic Enforcement Unit deals with offences such as these on a daily basis but not to the same extent. We’re really grateful to our partners for assisting us throughout the operation and look forward to doing more of the same in the very near future.”

Police will be targeting wanted offenders as part of month-long crackdown on crime.

The initiative codenamed Operation Olympus will see over 250 local officers from across the Force and specialist units including traffic, tactical aid and the ANPR intercept teams target offenders for a range of offences including domestic abuse, sexual offences and general criminality.

The days of action, which will focus on known and wanted criminals are being held across the Force’s 11 divisions from 3 to 20 February.

Greater Manchester Police Superintendent Craig Thompson, operational lead, said: “Operation Olympus sends a clear message to criminals that there will be no hiding place for them and that the safety of our community comes first and will always be our priority. We will leave no stone unturned and will use all of our disruption tactics to make life difficult for them.

“By using all of our resources during the month we will put a stop to their criminal ways and show them that there’s always a place for them in our cells.”

For live updates from the operation follow #OpOlympus from the GMP twitter accounts. You can find your local Twitter account by visiting: www.gmp.police.uk/socialmedia.

A lonely view of racks, servers, ducts behind the scenes of a busy network.

At around 6.30am this morning (Friday 30 April) officers from GMP's Stockport Challenger, alongside officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, CID and partners executed warrants at seven properties in the Stockport and Ardwick area of Greater Manchester and one property in Disley.

During searches of the property officers seized a large quantity of suspected class A and B drugs, two suspected firearms and ammunition, high value items including watches and handbags, and an estimated £30,000 to £40,000 in cash.

This action formed part of Operation Foam, a large scale operation focused on the infiltration and takedown of the encrypted communication platform EncroChat.

Operation Foam is GMP's strand of Operation Venetic, a nationwide operation that has seen law enforcement agencies across the UK join together and share expertise in order to break through the highly sophisticated and encrypted global communication service.

Superintendent Marcus Noden of GMP's Stockport Division, said: "Today's action is the culmination of many months of meticulous and thorough investigative work and these arrests and seizures are testament to the skill and dedication put in by all officers involved to help disrupt serious organised crime.

"The detrimental impact of serious organised criminal activity does not just impact those involved but can be felt across communities and GMP is committed to identifying this activity and ensuring those responsible face the appropriate justice.

"Our work will continue but we want to highlight that often our investigations are supported by intelligence passed to us by members of the public so I would encourage anyone with information that could assist on enquiries to get in touch with police."

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 2795. Alternatively, details can be passed on anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
