Hundreds of people have gathered at Stonehenge to watch the sunrise on the first official day of autumn.

About 250 druids, pagans and visitors were given access to the stones to mark the autumn equinox for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

Presenters during Blogfesores 2009: Open Access Conference

A day of varied activities. I cycled to Fairford Library and got a few new books out, and also put my name down for the Open Access induction on Monday afternoon.

Then I had my eyes tested at Fairford Opticians - my first visit there. It's very quaint and old-fashioned, but very comfortable and friendly too. I don't think they use email to contact their 'patients', mainly phone - or post. The optician I saw was older than me, and very chatty, but also good at explaining things. His tests showed little change in my eyes from last time (I took my Specsavers card to show him my results from 2 years ago). He didn't pressure me to get glasses, and was very reassuring about my use of multiple pairs of glasses for different tasks. I was interested to see the clock in the waiting area - bought by one of the opticians. The hands go anticlockwise, and give you an idea of what it must be like for kids to make sense of a clock face!

After lunch, I did the shopping at Tesco, and later on I helped Mike transfer his mobile phone account from BT to EE, in preparation for leaving BT, now that we have Gigaclear fibre broadband.

My eldest sister, Cathy, is first off the mark with the Christmas cards this year!
