I am taking Roz's excellent class on the intentional page, "By Design" . SO much to learn, this online classes jam packed with info. We were asked to think about our intention. My intention is to document all the stuff that I take with me to "The Providence Hotel" for IL2 / cycle 4. Another intention is to entertain my providers, nursing staff, other IL2 people/family and myself!

Hidden away amongst the rugged West Texas Mountains is the tranquil Coal Mine Ranch. The ranch is privately owned so one must be invited, tho' what's more, is one must know how to navigate the unmarked dirt roads to arrive there. An off-road vehicle is a must, too. Once at the Coal Mine Ranch, satellite radio is the only connection to the civilized world; otherwise, expect one of the most relaxing times you could ever have in the wild.

The Coal Mine Ranch is featured in my second book, "El Paso 120 : Edge of the Southwest" which shows the incredible landscapes of West Texas, Southern New Mexico and ... well, El Paso. All areas included in the book are 120 miles or less from the City of El Paso, Texas. Upon release, "El Paso 120" went on to become a best seller and was recognized by the Texas Book Festival as one of the best Texas photography books of the year. The book is available to purchase from any major book sellers such as Barnes and Noble , Amazon or Waterstones

By far, White Sands is my most favourite place in America. It's so surreal to be amongst the vast white dunes of gypsum sand. More than this, I hear each breath, footsteps mean something and White Sands is entirely peaceful. I've walked, hiked and slid down the massive dunes tho' the biggest thrill came when an Air Force pilot strapped me in his plane, took the door off and allowed me to literally hang out to photograph the landscape below. It might be said that these white sand dunes touch my soul.

Any critique would be appreciated.

The truth is this - travel spins us around in more ways than we can imagine. Travel teaches each of us life's lessons we can never find in a book or screen. It shows us what is really important in life especially if you're immersed in a foreign culture. The values and issues we might ignore on any given day are in our face typically accompanied with a genuine smile and a warm hello. And even deeper, travel shows us all the parts of ourselves that are buried beneath the smothering routine we subject ourselves to.

For in travelling to a truly foreign place - a place we don't recognize as home, we accordingly travel to tastes, and sounds and states of mind and hidden feelings that we'd otherwise have reason to visit. Travel is a quick way to keep our minds energized and awake. Thoughts become clearer and our breaths deeper.

And if travel is like love, and I believe it is, it is mostly because it's a heightened state of awareness. We are mindful, receptive, undimmed by familiarity and ready to be transformed. That is why, like the best love affairs, special travel experiences never really end.

all the ones my mom and i made!

I was doing some online classes about HDR and my post processing methods lately.

The funny part of those online classes was the fact that I let the attendees pick one of my images that I had to post process during the session.

Over the next 7 days I would like to show you the results. More information about one of the pictures can be found at my blog at www.lightsandbytes.com/taking-pictures-in-chicago/

BTW: For each picture I only had 20 minutes till finishing touch.

On a cold winter day, the clouds and the London Eye roll during sunset.

You're thinking I have a lifetime pass for the London Eye in my wallet. I really don't. In fact, since it's opening, I've only taken the London Eye ride just once. This is true! Is it possible to exhaust my thoughts about the London Eye?

According to FourSquare and those who use the mobile app, the London Eye is the third best place in London to see the sunset. To be honest, I wasn't trying to capture the sunset but had visualised the rotating London Eye with Big Ben in the background for a video clip, which you can see in this post.

I have to dig deep for more London Eye facts since I've given so many in previous posts, but here goes ::

:: The London Eye is not a Ferris wheel. It’s the world’s tallest cantilevered observation wheel

:: Supermodel Kate Moss has been on the London Eye 25 times – the record for a UK celebrity

:: On average the London Eye receives more visitors per year than the Taj Mahal and the Great Pyramids of Giza

:: You can see up to 40 kilometres in all directions (that’s as far as Windsor Castle on a clear day)

:: In December 2005 the London Eye was lit pink in celebration of the first Civil Partnership performed on the wheel

:: The 32 capsules on the London Eye are representative of the 32 London boroughs, and each one weighs as much as 1,052,631 pound coins

:: Despite there only being 32 capsules, for superstitious reasons they are numbered 1 – 33. For good luck number 13 is left out

:: The London Eye can carry 800 people each rotation, which is comparable to 11 London red double-decker buses

:: The London Eye had a predecessor – The Great Wheel – which was in working order from 1895 - 1906

:: Capsules travel at a leisurely pace of 26cm per second, which is twice as fast as a tortoise sprinting

An online class I just completed on learning how to "muddy" up the background. The girlie's face is done in colored pencil on sketchbook paper and then collaged onto the wood. This was super fun!!!!!

Travel Destination :: Himalaya Mountains In Bhutan

I had no expectations travelling to Bhutan. I knew the architecture would leave me speechless. The people I imagined would be nice. In fact, the Bhutanese are beyond incredible and I love that they love quiet.

It was not until I was high in the Himalayas that I found heaven on earth. There are mountains, which are majestic in many ways, and then there are the Himalayas. Only here can you stand higher than you've ever been on earth and touch the clouds without reaching high above your head.

On the verge of tears, I stood in awe as the clouds rolled in swirling around my head. The fog engulfed my entire body making it near impossible to see a foot in front of me. If it is possible to have a spiritual moment with nature, this was it.

Travelling within Bhutan west to east there is no choice but to negotiate a variety of mountain passes. Do beware. There are few straight roads (as in none) and there might be more bumps than your accustomed to. Bumps and curves are all part of the adventure. The beauty that awaits you at the top of the world surpasses how you get there.

For an experience of a lifetime, add Bhutan to your travel destination list. The memories and stories you'll collect will last a lifetime.

The Tourism Council of Bhutan states this about the environment ::

Bhutan pristine environment, with high rugged mountains and deep valleys, offers ecosystems that are both rich and diverse. Recognizing the importance of the environment, conservation of its rich biodiversity is one of the government’s developments paradigms.

The government has enacted a law that shall maintain at least 60% of its forest cover for all time. Today, approximately 72% of the total land area of Bhutan is under forest cover and approximately 60% of the land area falls under protected areas comprising of 10 national parks and sanctuaries.

A Colourful parade in the Giyanar District of Bali Indonesia. Watch the video (on the blog) as locals from villages parade through the streets of Bali in traditional Balinese dress. Festive live music adds to the delightful atmosphere.

In this parade, people representing a variety of villages are traditionally dressed in bright vibrant colours and their faces are painted as you would see during a village ceremony. Each village also creates a large "float," if you will. (Think American parades during the New Year celebrations.) The massive and ornately decorated floats are carried on the male villager's shoulders from the beginning of the parade until the end. Now, that's a workout! Loud beats from drums set the cadence of everyone's steps. There are cheers from the spectators, who are shoulder to shoulder along the streets of Giyanar, and special approval when one's own villagers pass by.

The parade and showmanship are a competition of sorts and a friendly one at that. Of course, I have an affinity to the village named Penempaham. Penempaham is where my Bali story began three years ago. You can read about my Balinese journey throughout this blog.

This day was due to be an opportunity to photograph and capture video of traditional costume and Balinese Hindu symbols from people of different villages. All went well until I realised there was no battery in the camera. Yes, I am indeed a professional. I am also human with a forgetful mind.

I accomplished half of the mission as I witnessed a remarkable cultural display and a lot of beautiful people. The other half of the task was merely captured with the iPhone. Hey ho.

Each time I'm in Bali, my affinity and respect grow for the Balinese. I see the good and the darker sides of their religion; mostly good.
