Olvera Street, in Downtown LA, is right in the heart of where all of Los Angeles began. Part of the historic El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument, it is a bustling open-air market nestled amongst 27 historic buildings, including the Avila Adobe. Olvera Street is alive with history, culture and an air that is unique to Los Angeles itself.
These earrings, inspired by Olvera Street, feature sterling silver (925) fish hook earrings with hand-woven red cotton cord macramé and blue and red millefiori glass beads.
These earrings are SO unique and hip! They definitely make a statement -- a funky one! They've got kind of a Southwest flair to them, but they're still pretty stylish, super lightweight and fun to wear.

Site of the founding of the city of Los Angeles with the Avila Adobe and the center of the town's activities until the 1880's when a huge Anglo influx shifted the center of activity a few miles south and left the area in decline. In the 1920's Mrs. Christine Sterling took an immediate interest in the dilapidated area and enthusiastically fought off plans for demolition, resulting in a revitalized marketplace and tourist spot-though ironically this is just across the street from Union Station and Old Chinatown, which was demolished. Every Cinco de Mayo there is a huge festival here.

June 2016. Above the 'Plaza de Andalusia' in Olvera is the garden of el Peñón del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús (the Rock of the Sacred Heart of Jesus), a beautiful rock/flower garden. A variety of birds can be seen in the park or flying high above it.
