Just strolling around the quiet streets of this beautiful Andalucian town is a delight. The views of the surrounding countryside aren't bad either! Olvera Street, in Downtown LA, is right in the heart of where all of Los Angeles began. Part of the historic El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument, it is a bustling open-air market nestled amongst 27 historic buildings, including the Avila Adobe. Olvera Street is alive with history, culture and an air that is unique to Los Angeles itself.
These earrings, inspired by Olvera Street, feature sterling silver (925) fish hook earrings with hand-woven red cotton cord macramé and blue and red millefiori glass beads.

About the piece:
Marguerita was an avid Loteria player who passed away of alzheimers. In her final days, she was reduced to child like qualities - - - noting the visual of the the baby arm (La Mano - a card in the Loteria deck) that waves "bye-bye".
Viewers are asked to interact with the automata piece to rotate the gears and cranks making La Mano wave.
Hidden elements that may be found in the piece include, vintage french religious images framed in bakelite, mounted animal heads (including her dog pepper), a window with a view of M's x-ray, religious prayers on the book shelf, a hunting trophy, a broken mirror referencing day of the dead symbolism, a statue of JW Hardin an infamous cowboy, and her favorite tucked up on a shelf... a bottle of coca-cola.
