Olvera Street is in the oldest part of Downtown Los Angeles, California, and is otherwise known as the birthplace of the City of Angels or El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument and is a department within the city. Many Latinos refer to it as 'La Placita Olvera'. Circa 1911 it was described as Sonora Town.
Having started as a short lane, Wine Street, it was extended and renamed in honor of Agustin Olvera, a prominent local judge, in 1877. There are 27 historic buildings lining Olvera Street, including the Avila Adobe, the Pelanconi House and the Sepulveda House. In 1930, it was converted to a colorful Mexican marketplace. It is also the setting for Mexican style music and dancing and holiday celebrations, such as Cinco de Mayo.
Just strolling around the quiet streets of this beautiful Andalucian town is a delight. The views of the surrounding countryside aren't bad either! Situated in the north-eastern corner of the Cadiz province and with a population of about 8,500, Olvera is one of the larger "pueblo blancos" (white villages) in the area with white houses, steep and narrow streets leading up to an old Arab fortress at the top of town. Wandering the streets - taking most of the colour out of the photos allows the viewer to focus rather more on the architectural lines of the buildings. April 2019 - Above the 'Plaza de Andalusia' in the centre of Olvera is the garden of el Peñón del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús (the Rock of the Sacred Heart of Jesus). At the top of the rock, with arms raised is the impressive statue of Christ carved by Jose Even Navas, in 1929. Some photos taken in this attractive haven of peace and tranquility.

A beautiful, clear day in January 2013. From the road west of Setenil de las Bodegas, a view of Olvera in the distance with the 'Sierra del Tablon' mountains on the far horizon. The village below and to its right, nestled in a valley, is Torre Alhaquime. The early morning fog hung on the valleys as the strong sunlight shine providing some unusual views of this beautify part of Andalucia in Southern Spain.
Pueblo Blanco is a Category 1 Campsite , situated on a typical Andalusian Farm Estate, located in the vicinity of the Via Verde de la Sierra and the village of Olvera in the province of Cadiz.
Olvera was a real treat, the camping was great and the town was excellent with a hilltop castle that afforded great views.
I popped over to Olvera Street recently to check on their merchandise selection for a friend. It's easy to find inspiration here in the colors and materials.
