I am late for posting this puzzle for Talk Like a Pirate Day on Sept 19th, 2024. I just had so many photos to process to present this puzzle well enough for my liking, it took me quite a long time to get everything right. (Over 30 images of this dual-sided puzzle!) This post is showing the colored map side only. The other side will be a new post shown later.
The medieval-era spelling and syntax of the text on the map image reads similarly to our light-hearted interpretation of the corsairs and buccaneers (aka pirates) without the "Arrr!" and "Matey" etc. There are some fun descriptions and country names. Of particular note, 'Kanada' and 'Pole Lande'.
In the North American Canadian territory the text reads, "Ye Great Forest and Dank Wilderness filled with Great Bears." And in Greenland it is described as "Home of the Esquimeaux" (Eskimo). The updated term we use today is Inuit.
I tried to capture clear photos to show readable text to explore how fun the map is.
A major detail about this puzzle is that it is not fully interlocking as shown in the detail photos. The most stressful concern was the bottom right corner of the puzzle which was a small non-interlocking piece that could just slide anywhere and get lost! I captured a somewhat exploded-view of the puzzle to show that much of it just pushed together. I am very lucky after all these years the puzzle has remained complete and will be in very good hands with me.
It took quite a lot of effort, love and patience to keep the puzzle together throughout the assembly process. Sometimes frustrating but overall, a fun puzzle.

first the door knob was a chipped up, cheap brass knob. then i painted it black. Charlie didn't like that so i painted it white. That was terrible, so today I attacked it with some mod podge and a vintage map.
(the black is the backside to get an idea of what it looked like in stage 2)
now i think it looks like something a hipster college kid would buy in Urban Outfitters, and I don't think I'm too keen on that.
