This building may be the third to have been built on this site and as such has a wonderfully interesting graveyard. The previous church on this site was a building of some antiquity, and by the early years of the 19th century was in such a state of disrepair that the minister refused to conduct services there.
The present 1812 building (with additions in 1897) was designed in a semi-classical and Neo-Gothic style. It's distinctive clock tower with blue dial is a landmark for miles around.
In the photograph, the area that is fenced off, in front of the left-hand side of the church, is The Auchentoshan Enclosure dated 1666. The kirkyard also contains a number of other ancient and interesting monuments.
Lusset Glen is a very pleasant area with tall mature trees straddling the Dalnottar Burn. It stretches roughly easterly from Dumbarton Road under the railway until reaching Great Western Road. Glen Road is almost parallel with it for the first stretch and can be used as alternative parking to that on Dumbarton Road.
Evening On The Patio
Enjoying the late evening sunshine on the patio with Alistair, who came up this evening to stay for the weekend. More info. Ref: D1101-248
The old and the new. The old Erskine Ferry slipway at Old Kilpatrick and the Erskine Bridge. Shame it wasn't later in the day and the sky is so boring but it was just a quick snap whilst out and about.
Throwing Sunset Shapes
We started the clear up after the show today but we got back to the cottage in time for a lovely sunset across the Clyde. I decided to act the fool in the garden for today’s image. More info. Ref: D1101-263
