This was taken at Old Harbor in Block Island. Block Island is off the coast of Rhode Island and is a popular summer vacation spot for New Englanders. I got up early for sunrise, put my equipment in the basket of my bike are rode to the shore. The sunrise was a bust so I decided to look for other interesting spots to photograph.

Along the quiet shores of the Oosterschelde, south of the village of Kats, weathered wooden posts rise from the water like silent witnesses to a bygone era. These remnants are believed to be part of a modest agricultural jetty or loading site, once used for transporting goods such as grain, turf, and fertilizer by boat—long before roads and trucks took over. Likely dating back to the late 19th or early 20th century, the structure has since surrendered to time and tide.

Walking up Thufa by Hadi Hormozi

Thufa (Þúfa) in Reykjavik is designed by the Icelandic artist Ólöf Nordal in 2013. Thufa is a large, grassy, dome shaped hillock, 8 meter high and 26 meters in diameter. This grassy mound was constructed out of 4500 tons of gravel.

From the ground, there is a spiral path around the hill to walk up to the top. At the top, there is a tiny shack similar to the old shacks that Icelanders used to dry fish.

Thufa is set at the harbor mouth in the Grandi area and offers fine views of the Old Harbor, Faxa Bay, Harpa and Mount Esja.

This public art is meant to be walked up.
