barely able to stay awake in the spring sunshine, this old cat came over to see what i was photographing... as it happened, it was a cat
This is Gizmo. He's my baby, despite being the oldest cat in the house. Now some might say that 10 (going on 11) is not old for a cat, and that would be true if he was a normal, healthy cat. But for a cat that suffers from FLUTD and a heart murmur, he's done good to get this far. And I'm grateful that, not only is he alive, but he's rather active and happy too.
The apps used were Camera+ and ArtistaOil. I really wanted a more classical look for him; he deserves it.
Tigr likes to sleep on this chair by the terrace door. She can lie in the sun or look out and watch the birds fly by. She was sleeping when I started photographing her, but the camera's noise woke her just a bit. After I finished, she closed her eyes and resumed her nap.
My 'old man' Moon spends a lot of time on the couch these days...but he jumps up in a hurry when the cat food can is opened !
This cat was near a sign that was across the street that said Cat Crossing... I guess he/she did just that!
... not his usual cheerful self.
It suddenly struck me that it's ages since we had a cat picture, so here's one to remedy the deficiency.
Check out his paws and you can see the grey creeping in. This is my little 14 year old Havana Brown. He is the most wonderful cat I have ever known and his favorite place to sleep is on my pillow. His official name is Indykats Whitman Sampler but he generally just goes by Whit.
Here are pictures of Cosmo the cat taken during the holidays ending with New Year's Day, 2023. They were at home in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He is a good looking 16 year old cat, but last year, the vet found all sorts of old cat problems. He has cataracts, is on thyroid medicine and eating wet food - and that makes him very happy. I want to showcase him for the album for this calendar year's Project 365. What better way than to make him the picture of the day!
We don't often see the dear old girl outside now. She's 18, an spends most of her time in the corner of the kitchen worktop, watching proceedings, and occasionally venturing out when she want feeding or milk. Usually, the only time she gets down on the floor is when she falls off, which she tends to do when walking along the front of the sinks. Just for a change, though, we found her outside on Sunday evening last week: a warm evening, and she'd cuddled up against our back wall, which catches the afternoon sun, and always heats up.

Our two oldest cats have been sharing a room for several months without much interaction between them. We took in Grey Boy from @emptycagescollective in 2010 and Black Betty is a feral who's lived in our #backyardcolony since 2008. We brought her in last year because she's old as dirt. They don't do a lot, mostly nap in various locations around the room and beg for Temptations. But they always sleep away from each other until yesterday! This basket is for some reason highly coveted so maybe it was a matter of time before they both got into it at the same time, but it's nice to see them bonding a little. #seniorcat #seniorferal #catsofbushwick #oldcats instagr.am/p/C3nXQ9OOXvi/
Tracy - Tuffy says there's plenty of room! (she probably won't share her pink sparkle ball so don't even ask...).
He was 18, had a crippled paw, and severe hyperthyroidism. He died a few weeks after we left. Such a sweet little guy.
Bubba is my upstairs neighbor's cat. He's thirteen years old now. He doesn't do much except eat, sleep, use the catbox and makes a trip outside twice a day. He was hit by a car when he was six months old. The accident broke his right hind leg. My neighbor took him to the vet and had it mended. He also had Bubba vaccinated and fixed, and they've been together ever since. Bubba walks with a limp, which is more pronounced now that he is getting older. But in human years, he is about caught up with my neighbor now. Also, Bubba doesn't interact with the other cats, including my own. He growls and hisses at them, like some old curmudgeon, as if to say, "Git offa my lawn!"
Hunter the black cat is my very first pet in life and he has been a guard cat of our art school for past 16years. He is 18yo now. He became so weak, eats less, drinks less and sleeps a lot. I decided to take him to the vet tomorrow morning because he hasn’t had his bowel movements for a week. I’m preparing myself to put him down if that’s best for him. It’s very sad. But I’ve been thinking about happy memories he has given to us.
It's not the best picture, but I caught this moment with Haley & Whiskey. My daughter doesn't pay attention to our cats like she use too. But, she managed to come out of her cave for a moment and Whiskey grabbed the chance for some loving. :)
