I was in Lewes again the other day and happened to wander into a small florist's shop on my way back to the car. The flowers were gorgeous and the lovely lady there was happy to sell me just 2 individual flowers. Hardly the sale of the century for her, but all done with a warm smile. When I saw this Carnation I just wanted to dive into it head first. If you enlarge this image, you might too. :)

Having missed the last 10 weeks through illness, I feel I'm very much out of practice with creating this type of image, but I hope it's like a muscle that just needs to be flexed. Anyway, it's wonderful to be able to use my camera again.

The St Kilda Botanical Gardens are a very beautiful place to visit, not least for all for their wonderful array of roses found in the Alister Clarke Rose Garden.
Emely is a breed of hybrid tea rose bred by Kordes Roses. She has large peach coloured blooms of good form, and is deemed to be a very healthy, robust rose variety. Her flowers are fragrant and come on long, firm stems which make them suitable for cutting.
The site of the St Kilda Botanical Gardens were established in the 1800's. The municipal council petitioned the Department of Lands and Survey to make this segment of land bordered by Dickens Street, Tennyson Street and Blessington Street a Botanic Garden. The gardens were formally established in 1859 when a boundary fence was erected. By 1907 significant donations of money and plant material had led to the establishment of a rosary, extensive flower beds and a nursery. Exotic forest trees were planted during the 1870s and Australian species were included in 1932. In the 1950s the Alister Clarke Rose Garden was established and a Sub-Tropical Rain-forest conservatory added in the early 1990's.
It seems that if I don't have a button for it, I have a miniature for it. :)

fungus (plural: fungi or funguses is any member of the group of eukaryotic organisms that includes microorganisms such as yeasts and molds, as well as the more familiar mushrooms. These organisms are classified as a kingdom, separately from the other eukaryotic kingdoms, which by one traditional classification include Plantae, Animalia, Protozoa, and Chromista.
A characteristic that places fungi in a different kingdom from plants, bacteria, and some protists is chitin in their cell walls. Fungi, like animals, are heterotrophs; they acquire their food by absorbing dissolved molecules, typically by secreting digestive enzymes into their environment. Fungi do not photosynthesize. Growth is their means of mobility, except for spores (a few of which are flagellated), which may travel through the air or water. Fungi are the principal decomposers in ecological systems. These and other differences place fungi in a single group of related organisms, named the Eumycota (true fungi or Eumycetes), that share a common ancestor (i.e. they form a monophyletic group), an interpretation that is also strongly supported by molecular phylogenetics. This fungal group is distinct from the structurally similar myxomycetes (slime molds) and oomycetes (water molds). The discipline of biology devoted to the study of fungi is known as mycology (from the Greek μύκης mykes, mushroom). In the past, mycology was regarded as a branch of botany, although it is now known fungi are genetically more closely related to animals than to plants.
Abundant worldwide, most fungi are inconspicuous because of the small size of their structures, and their cryptic lifestyles in soil or on dead matter. Fungi include symbionts of plants, animals, or other fungi and also parasites. They may become noticeable when fruiting, either as mushrooms or as molds. Fungi perform an essential role in the decomposition of organic matter and have fundamental roles in nutrient cycling and exchange in the environment. They have long been used as a direct source of human food, in the form of mushrooms and truffles; as a leavening agent for bread; and in the fermentation of various food products, such as wine, beer, and soy sauce. Since the 1940s, fungi have been used for the production of antibiotics, and, more recently, various enzymes produced by fungi are used industrially and in detergents. Fungi are also used as biological pesticides to control weeds, plant diseases and insect pests. Many species produce bioactive compounds called mycotoxins, such as alkaloids and polyketides, that are toxic to animals including humans. Fungi can break down manufactured materials and buildings, and become significant pathogens of humans and other animals. Losses of crops due to fungal diseases (e.g., rice blast disease) or food spoilage can have a large impact on human food supplies and local economies.
The fungus kingdom encompasses an enormous diversity of taxa with varied ecologies, life cycle strategies, and morphologies ranging from unicellular aquatic chytrids to large mushrooms. However, little is known of the true biodiversity of Kingdom Fungi, which has been estimated at 2.2 million to 3.8 million species.[5] Of these, only about 148,000 have been described,[6] with over 8,000 species known to be detrimental to plants and at least 300 that can be pathogenic to humans.[7] Ever since the pioneering 18th and 19th century taxonomical works of Carl Linnaeus, Christiaan Hendrik Persoon, and Elias Magnus Fries, fungi have been classified according to their morphology (e.g., characteristics such as spore color or microscopic features) or physiology. Advances in molecular genetics have opened the way for DNA analysis to be incorporated into taxonomy, which has sometimes challenged the historical groupings based on morphology and other traits. I've been ill for 7 weeks now, but I've finally picked up my camera again and created something. I'm hugely better than I was, but still needing lots of pills every day, which make me very sleepy. Sadly, I seem to have missed the whole summer. :(
One of the activities which has helped me pass the time is creating wax seals - a modern version of the seals that were used to authenticate important documents in the Middle Ages. They're much prettier now. The lovely thing about it is that when things go wrong, as they do, you can just cut them up, melt them and start again. :)
Thank you to everyone who wrote kind, supportive, comments on my last upload and special thanks to those who sent me personal messages. They really cheered me up and I'm very grateful.
I hope I'll be back on Flickr properly very soon.

Kommende Sonnenfinsternis - Sonne Licht Schatten = aktueller Bezug, bisher nicht gezeigte Bilder aus dieser Serie hochzuladen. Struktur, Verlauf, einer der roten Fäden, Dramturgie: nach ersten Fotos von der Exploration Lebensborn, die im Kalender Woche 26 Juni verzeichnet ist zum Kalender Überblicksseite Juli (die sich zwischen Woche 26/1 und Woche 26/2 befindet) mit Eintrag "Reservierung", zu einem weiteren Bild über Kreise und deren Anzahl mit Schatten, zu einem neu gemachten Titelbild für das 2013 begonnene Projekt in dem es um Schatten und zeichnen geht, und es handelt sich um Papier, das in einem verfallenen Gebäude, einer Fabrik außer Betrieb gefunden wurde - so wie auch Exploration Lebensborn von einem verfallenen Gebäude, leerstehend, außer Betrieb handelt. Frühere Bilder von Stilleben in Licht und Schatten, mit Sonneneinfall durchs Fenster - siehe Kommentar. Die Parallele ist wohl augenscheinlich (ob man nun ein Bild, ein Kleisterpapier so photographiert, oder ein aufgeschlagenes Buch mit Abdrücken). Nicht um die Parallelen (etwa auch Verwendung von Zeitungssausschnitten z.B.: Standard) an sich geht es, der springende Punkt dabei ist vielmehr: den anderen zu blocken. Dies ist eine Feststellung (Beschreibung von Tatsachen). Ideen von anderen aufnehmen, darauf aufbauen, diese weiterentwickeln, diese Infragezustellen und einen Dialog führen, ist zum Beispiel Teil der Kreativität (siehe Beschreibung vorheriges Bild) Aber nachzumachen und es z.B.: zu leugnen, nachmachen und den, den man nachmacht zu blocken, den Dialog, die Diskussion zu verweigern….etc., das ist etwas ganz anderes.
Er kann sich darüber selbst belügen, Ausreden finden, er kann springen wie Rumpelstilzchen, im Dreieck springen, im Sechseck springen…., Verhaltensweisen wie blocken haben ihre Folgen für den der blockt -einige Facetten dessen, was die Folgen von Verhaltensweisen wie blocken, Immunsierung gegen Kritik, Gesprächsverweigerung etc. sind wurden schon ausgeführt - Und das Ergebnis sieht man: außer blocken seit Jahren keine Ideen mehr (falls man blocken eine Idee nennen kann/will) - sonst nur Wiederholung von urvertrauten Uraltideen und benützen, ausnützen der Geblockten. Der, der blockt hat sich damit in eine Zwickmühle hineinmanövriert: sich der Kritik verschließen, also z.B.: Fehler nicht ausbessern ist ein großer Fehler, und andererseits Fehler ausbessern und den der einen aufmerksam macht blocken - für diese Verhaltensweise kann man viele Ausdrücke finden, aber mir fällt kein einziger ein, der positiv ist.
Der springende Punkt ist das Blocken anderer, daran ändert sich nichts, da kann er noch so springen wie Rumpelstilzchen….
