Having met just moments before, we found ourselves welcomed guests of Raimundo, a man who valued his peaceful, simple lifestyle on the banks of the Amazon river.
Owners/builders Charlie Weiss and Katharine Lawrence work in the kitchen while their daughter Julia plays with Jenny on radiant heated concrete floors in their new certified LEED platinum home. Captured rain water is heated with the help of a groundwater heat pump, powered by photovoltaic solar panels, which then flows through tubes in the floor. The concrete is partially made with fly ash, a byproduct of coal burning.

We went to Off the Grid's Picnic at the Presidio for supper. It was a cool evening with a chilly breeze twenty-or-so food trucks and hundreds (if not thousands) of hungry people on the Presidio's Main Parade Ground for the weekly event.
5 gallons of aircraft stripper later, the numerous layers of house paint revealed the aluminum skin. Emily was the only member of the team small enough to venture onto the roof.

an idea of the forces of tropical decay they are up against on the garden island: out back behind a "safer, more reputable" helicopter tour office on kauai, between warm rain showers. at least some of this seemed to be no longer in use!
