Nellie E's is a solar-powered, totally green, off the grid saloon located 5 miles of dirt road past Cienega Springs Rd. /Hwy 95, outside of Parker AZ. It is tough going to get there and they don't have any good beer but we enjoyed every minute of our visit.

The internet unravelled. Systems collapsed. Within days, the digital world vanished—no signals, no power, no fuel. Money, wages, pensions: gone. Transport ground to a halt. Yet, in the chaos, people endured. This series captures the resilience of those left to navigate a world stripped bare of technology

I'm working on a project called Sustainable Howe Sound with the David Suzuki Foundation (sustainablehowesound.ca/).

From the website we're building... "Life in the waters of Howe Sound is rebounding after decades of harm from industrial activity. Planning for the future is the best way to protect the sound’s wildlife and communities. Sustainable Howe Sound is a platform for individuals and groups who share a commitment to protect Howe Sound. The end goal is a plan for land and marine environments guided by public and expert input.".

Our first visit was to Camp Firmcom (fircom.ca/) on Gambier Island. Check out the interview and photos! :)

Large communities of unique homesteads exist up on the Taos Plateau. The building materials are varied and very original :-)

The term "Off the grid" applies to those that live off the main power grid. Most of these homes do not have electricity other than what they can generate from the sun and wind. Some do not even have running water. And there are others that have every modern luxury. Right down the road from this area are the world famous Taos "Earthships" .

Pedestrians and shoppers take photos on the green turf of the 2015 Winter Walk.

The flowers were a vibrant ensemble of moss green, deep purple and magenta.

A happy kid's face on the side of the Little Red Riding (food) Truck and a not-so-happy kid's face in line beside it. We went to Off the Grid's Picnic at the Presidio for supper. It was a cool evening with a chilly breeze. There were twenty-or-so food trucks and hundreds (if not thousands) of hungry people on the Presidio's Main Parade Ground for the weekly event.
