Mt. Kunyit is an active volcano in the Kerinci Seblat National Park, Sumatra, Indonesia. The trek to the crater takes about six hours, and passes through beautiful cloud forests and beside fumrole volcanic vents. In the middle of the crater lies a bubbling hotspring, and what locals call "Taman Dewa" or "The Garden of the Gods." It has a spiritual, mythical place in local folklore, and is the site where local hero Depati Parbo meditated to supposedly gain invulnerability to Dutch bullets during the war for Kerinci.

A spring roadtrip exploring the Burnt River Canyon in Baker County
A beautiful day exploring the Burnt River Canyon between Durkee and Unity in Baker County Oregon .
The Burnt River Canyon near Durkee is always one of our favorite drives for taking in the majestic scenery of Eastern Oregon and watching wildlife along the way. Saw lots of wildlife this trip as colder temperatures have pushed lots of deer down into the canyon. We were excited to spot a few Bighorn Sheep this trip and a napping Barn Owl

As I said, I did a B&W variation of www.flickr.com/photos/jwvraets/22984468796/in/photostream/ and one of my family members wanted to see how it looked (a real B&W fan) so here it is. PP is virtually identical, with the obvious exception of the B&W conversion in GIMP (Film Simulation tool, Ilford Delta 100 model) and some local adjustments below the body to bring the detail up a bit) .I am still waffling on which I prefer. - JW

Aerial view of the Symi Castle, on the slopes of the hill overooking the port of Yialos and the harbor town of Symi, in the upper town Ano Symi, on the island of Symi, part of the Rhodes regional unit, in South Aegean, Greece.
It used to be an ancient acropolis in the location, and later the site of the Knights Castle, built by the Knights of Saint John in the 14th century.
The castle contains an emblem of the Knights of Saint John over the main entrance and is located at the highest point of the Upper Town. It overlooks the harbor on one side and a small valley on the other, offering a breathtaking view of the entire town as well as of the Aegean Sea beyond it. There is also a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary (Kyra Panagia). This chapel occupies the highest point on the castle and offers spectacular views of the towns of Horio and Yialos.

Somebody decided to renovate an old farm warehouse and convert it into a rustic-style country store with lots of vintage signs and other typical kitschy memorabilia. Great idea. Too bad most of the traffic bypasses this highway for I-16 several miles north of here. I assume that was the reason for the early demise of this place. The lack of gas pumps probably didn't help either. Oh well, more fun for me.

Since there are no markers for the buildings, the one in the near right foreground is most likely a smoke house., and what appears to be another house in the background.
How interesting it is to just get off the beaten path, and take the road less traveled.
