Mt. Kunyit is an active volcano in the Kerinci Seblat National Park, Sumatra, Indonesia. The trek to the crater takes about six hours, and passes through beautiful cloud forests and beside fumrole volcanic vents. In the middle of the crater lies a bubbling hotspring, and what locals call "Taman Dewa" or "The Garden of the Gods." It has a spiritual, mythical place in local folklore, and is the site where local hero Depati Parbo meditated to supposedly gain invulnerability to Dutch bullets during the war for Kerinci.

A neat little town hidden away. Surprisingly there still is a Catholic school, a few occupied homes, abandoned homes and a post office...it's not even on the map...Hmmm
Down the road is another town called Sherburne, just a community hall left.

Century Farms and Beavers Along The Elkhorn Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon
A few wintery photos from our recent travels along the Elkhorn Scenic Byway in Baker County.
Spent some time exploring the Elkhorn Scenic Byway including a few back roads looking at Century Farms and some wildlife including a beaver along the way along the way.
This scenic byway circles through the Elkhorn mountains of Northeast Oregon beginning and ending in Baker City and passing through small towns like Sumpter, Granite, and Haines. The drive is incredibly scenic with wide open panoramic views across the Baker valley, high alpine forests, and following pristine rivers and creeks along the way. In the winter Anthony Lakes is home to Oregon's highest base elevation ski resort. In the summer the pristine alpine lake is a fishing and camping destination.

A spring roadtrip exploring the Burnt River Canyon in Baker County
A beautiful day exploring the Burnt River Canyon between Durkee and Unity in Baker County Oregon .
The Burnt River Canyon near Durkee is always one of our favorite drives for taking in the majestic scenery of Eastern Oregon and watching wildlife along the way. Saw lots of wildlife this trip as colder temperatures have pushed lots of deer down into the canyon. We were excited to spot a few Bighorn Sheep this trip and a napping Barn Owl

A huge petrified log sits on top of a high mesa and erodes through time, falling down the side. I imagine this place at one time looked like today's Redwood Forest in a swamp. I bet it was amazing! But I wouldn't want to be wading in the waters then, I've seen what lurked below the surface (gulp!)

Voted as one of the best beach in the world by Conde Nast - Playa Rincon. The vote is always subjective, and depends on personal preference. We would agree, it is beautiful and there are abosolutely no one on the beach.
