The Pendung Semurup waterfalls, approximately 15-20 meters in height, can be found on the eastern hills near the town of Semurup, and are reached after an easy, roughly one hour hike through relatively flat farmland and agroforest. Havilah and Bodfish, Kern County, California. The saloon. Corlew's Silver City - manufactured ghost town. Old buildings from all over the Kern Valley have been hauled in and re-arranged in the form of an old western town.
Corlew's Silver City, Bodfish, Kern County, California. Corlew's Silver City is a not a real ghost town, but a manufactured one. In the sixties and seventies, Dave and Arvilla Mills found several old, historic buildings from all over the Kern Valley region, hauled them to Bodfish and rearranged them to re-create the old western town of Silver City.
While the town itself is not real, nearly all of the buildings are authentic. Brought in from all over the area, from Keyesville to Isabella, from Whiskey Flat to Kernvale - many old towns and mining camps that are just a faded memory, or lost under the waters of nearby Lake Isabella. The Corlew family purchased the attraction and re-opened it in 1992, and have spent many hours restoring the buildings to an authentic state. Some of the buildings include the Isabella Jail, church, hotel, post office, saloon, and more.
Corlew's Silver City is waaaay off the beaten path, tucked away in the southern foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, roughly an hour northeast of Bakersfield, a few miles from Lake Isabella. It's a bit of a faded tourist stop, a little worse for wear from the ravages of time - but that's partly by design, because the buildings are meant to be preserved in a state of 'arrested decay'. A bit of tourist-trap kitsch with the creepy mannequin displays, but still worth the visit for old western buffs and history enthusiasts.

The beautifully painted interior of Santuario di Sant'Antonio a Fulgenzio (Sanctuary of Saint Anthony in Fulgenzio), a Franciscan church built in the early 1900s and dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, in the city of Lecce, Lecce province, Apulia region, southern Italy. The interior of the church is Apulian neo-Gothic style, very different from the Broque style of the main attractions in Lecce.

Century Farms and Small Town Charm Along The Elkhorn Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon
Spent a beautiful early summer day exploring small towns and century farms along the Elkhorn Scenic Byway in Baker County. Baker County is home to more than two dozen Oregon Century Farms and Ranches and the Elkhorn Scenic Byway and back roads along the way, are a great way to explore this working landscape of the American West.
Small towns along the way like Haines and Baker City offer visitors a glimpse at small town Americana at its best.
This scenic byway circles through the Elkhorn mountains of Northeast Oregon beginning and ending in Baker City and passing through small towns like Sumpter, Granite, and Haines. The drive is incredibly scenic with wide open panoramic views across the Baker valley, high alpine forests, and following pristine rivers and creeks along the way. In the winter Anthony Lakes is home to Oregon's highest base elevation ski resort. In the summer the pristine alpine lake is a fishing and camping destination. The Highlands of Iceland cover most of the interior and are mostly an uninhabitable volcanic desert, because the water precipitating as rain or snow infiltrates so quickly into the ground that it is unavailable for plant growth.
Off-road driving ("road" in this context meaning tracks that are already present) is forbidden entirely in Iceland, as it permanently damages the delicate soil. Transgressors are given sky-high fines.

It was originally built after the Ottoman conquest of Rhodes in 1522 and is named after Sultan Suleiman to commemorate his conquest. The mosque was reconstructed in 1808, has been restored several times since, and has been closed for worship since 2014, pending further restoration. It is the most significant surviving Ottoman-era monument in Rhodes.

This simple dirt-road has been good to me over the last four years since I joined Flickr. I have experienced the joys of nature throughout the inland expanse of the Florida Everglades. I have seen beautiful sunsets and an abundant variety of wildlife from birds to alligators. This dirt road is the eastern border of the Everglades, and as simple as it is, it's been an amazing road. It's shown me the beauty of nature and has given me the ability to reach out and touch it with my lens, to understand its ebbs and flows while enjoying it. Flickr got me out here...our Government has temporarily taken it away. Soon this shutdown dispute will be over and I will get my life back. Very soon, I hope ~ Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge ~ Everglades
Update: The Government shutdown is over today 10/17/13 ! The National parks have re-opened. Hallelujah.

A spring roadtrip exploring the Burnt River Canyon in Baker County
A beautiful day exploring the Burnt River Canyon between Durkee and Unity in Baker County Oregon .
The Burnt River Canyon near Durkee is always one of our favorite drives for taking in the majestic scenery of Eastern Oregon and watching wildlife along the way. Saw lots of wildlife this trip as colder temperatures have pushed lots of deer down into the canyon. We were excited to spot a few Bighorn Sheep this trip and a napping Barn Owl
