Diefenbunker: Canada's Cold War Museum

The Bunker was essential to the continuity of government in the event of a nuclear crisis. Not only was there an executive government in the form of the War Cabinet, but select government departments had to function as well.

Eighteen offices on the 300 and 400 level would have provided 24-hour support to their respective ministers. Look down the corridor and you’ll see the Department of Transportation, the Department of Public Works, and the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources.

Government agencies were also part of the Bunker’s operations. For example, the Canadian Housing and Mortgage Corporation had an office here. This agency would have helped establish temporary accommodations for displaced citizens.

Take a look into the recreated offices, making note of the desks. Bunker psychologists determined that bright colours would help people in a lockdown situation cope with catastrophic conditions up top. These offices reflect that design decision.

This "Offices" sign was just to the left of the three buses. It looks so Camp Anawanna-y. I'm curious how old this stuff is.

Some fancy office building on the other side of the Sydhavnen.

2 huts built by local volunteers to be offices at the Ayaktiit Elementary School, Nyamlel, South Sudan. One hut is used by the school principal and one for the teachers. Made using traditional techniques and materials, sun dried adobe bricks for the walls and a stick framework coved by grass for the roof. A little donation would provide cement for plaster and some paint which would help them last a little longer and look better. Photos by Athuai Athuai Warweng 6 June 2016.

View from the observation floor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Offices skyscraper in Shinjuku. It's so vast that it felt like a huge movie set of tall plastic model towers instead of a living, breathing city. Months later I found a t-shirt from Threadless with almost this exact view.
