George C. Wallace Community College (GCWCC) Health Studies comprises seven different entry-level fields of study, including Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, Medical Assisting, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology and Respiratory Therapist. Currently, these seven programs are spread across five buildings on The College’s Dothan campus.

Architects at Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, Inc. (GMC) designed a brand new 100,000 square-foot Consolidated Health Sciences Building that contains instructional laboratories, simulation laboratories, classrooms, and offices with capacity to accommodate all seven programs.

Not only will this facility enhance the College’s current programs by making them more functional and providing students and faculty access to the most up-to-date technology, but it also paves the way for future expansion of the allied health programs, allowing GCWCC to meet the demands of the ever-changing healthcare market.

Recently the former headquarters of the coal mines of Houthalen have been transferred into new offices. The two headframes from the 1930's behind the building are all that remain of the mines closed in 1992.
