At dusk, the sky already announced expected .. dark clouds, that every moment intensified his tone, then registered smartphone, the mirrored glass of Century offices. Palm trees and the sky still clear from the last rays of sunlight at the end of an afternoon, with summer rain.
For the past 30 or so years, there were two community newspapers covering Austin community area - Austin Weekly News and Austin Voice, This is where the later gets put together. The building has some other tenants, and, according to the sign on the door, the entrance to Voice Newspapers offices is actually on the side (under the blue canopy)
A couple of years ago, I said that Austin Voice is Chicago Sun-Times to Austin Weekly News' Chicago Tribune - in the sense that it's more sensationalistic and uses a lot more photos (this was before Sun-Times fired all of its photographers and then (eventually) rehired four of them back to avoid a lengthy lawsuit). Thing is,Chicago Sun-Times actually has good reporters, while the Voice... doesn't really do a whole lot of its own reporting. Most of its content are press releases, columns and opinion pieces. And event photo coverage. There are some news bits. And, to its credit, Austin Voice is one of the few community newspapers to publish poetry and comic strips by local artists.
Voice Newspapers also publishes Garfield-Lawndale Voice, which, in theory, at least,covers North Lawndale, West Garfield Park and East Garfield Park community areas. I say "in theory," because, a lot of times, there isn't much difference between the two newspapers.
