Back alley door in Pacific Beach. I found this subject interesting because of the single vent slat that was off-horizontal.

The lilac bush is turning a lovely colour right now and the birds use it as their hiding place when they've retrieved food from the feeder. I knew if I waited I might catch one, which I did from the relative comfort of indoors, as it's been raining a lot today.

Photo 5/31 October Picture a day.

I've done the October picture a day challenge for quite a few years and for a lot of those years I did a photo on the 4th of my cats as it was their birthday and also the Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Alas, my cats are no longer with me but my attention did naturally turn to cats. I'm also due to do a photo for my 125 Pictures in 2025 challenge for ceramics, so I've combined both challenges today.

I took a few banker photos in the garden this morning, then promptly deleted them before I went on a walk this afternoon, thinking I'd taken them yesterday. Doh! Anyway here is Moonface, seen on my walk. Despite his icy stare, he’s very friendly and walked a good way from his sunny place to come and see me.

The Kelly Whip Ice-cream van.... who's round is it?

We were hoping to catch a glimpse of the famed Cotopaxi Volcano, but its head was in clouds.

After doing the 4km lake walk, we headed back to Quito to a power blackout and no internet. Quito area is having planned outages. For October a month in 31 pictures

This is minimal tillage as shown on day 1/31. After the crop has been harvested the farm don't plough it in a traditional way as this might cause damage to the soil structure and also increase the risk of erosion. Ground prepared in this way will now be better suited to establishing plant roots. The entire process saves energy and of course money!

Managed to catch this when the rain eventually stopped.

Day 15 October Challenge

The best I could do, I'm afraid! I got the distinct impression that the last thing Dodgie and his chum Rory wanted to do was pose for the camera among the wild carrots - even for a goodie!

I went to the cemetery looking for fungi, but kind of knew there wouldn't be any yet as not damp enough. I always find something interesting there though, and noticed this bird ornament on one of the graves.

It's wrap for October 2023. Phew!

Santa Cruz Giant Tortoises at El Chato Ranch. There were about 60 huge Giant Tortoises, slowly wandering around the property, and slowly munching on grass. 2 Tortoises were having an amorous time for a while. It was amazing to see so many of these wonderful beasts. There are 11 species of Giant Tortoises but only 1 that we saw today.

With 97%of the Galapagos Islands being protected Naional Park, you literally see wonderful animals everywhere.

For October: A month in 31 pictures

Different version of the previous image. I think I like this one better.

Some leading lines seen in Green Park, Reading.

The mighty Stonehenge.

A stack of chairs in the canteen at work - still no time for a 'proper' photo ...

Left my photo of the day very late today, so just gone for a bubble shot still life. Trouble is they keep moving!

Using this photo for my 114 Pictures in 2014 Project, No. 99. On the Table (which of course is where it was taken).

Another rush job after work but I got a picture at least!

Combining two of my favourite things: Surfing and Crepuscular Rays!

Weather-wise, a dreary morning at Bradgate Park today, although a couple of days ago the forecast was good. Seems like a better planned visit required.

I had lots of nice standard shots of the moon, but when the cloud went across the face I thought this looked more moody.

1st of October means a new October Challenge. 31 Pictures coming up

Well that was some downpour this afternoon

Day 16 October Challenge

This lovely old boy looks just how I feel! He lives at our local farm shop, WillowTree where not only do they sell really lovely fresh produce and oddments, but they also have the most wonderful cafe which I have just been to for lunch with some of my ex-workmates (known as the Clucky Hens - if you heard us all together you'd understand why!) Luckily I took my camera, so now I'm off for a snooze!!!! zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Other coffee shops are available on the high street :-)

An unexpected find in the garden today. I'd gone out there to hopefully capture a bird, but was on my way back indoors when I spotted the Shield bug on the Alstroemeria.

October 11th. Today was my last chance to take a picture of these for the circles theme. This wind farm at Carland Cross appears frequently in my pics, although not so much this year. This is my first picture since they upgraded the windmills (ie made bigger). I know they are controversial but me, I love them.

Yes really. I decided to play around with the twirl effect today. Not sure I fully got it, but I like how it turned out.

Lost a bit of momentum for the October Challenge yesterday, due to commitments combined with foul weather, so this was a last minute shot just before I went to bed after raiding the prop box to see what I could use.

Also using this for the 114 Pictures in 2014 group, No. 5 Liquid.

Another wet and windy day so yet another indoor shot. Oil and water with some wrapping paper underneath. It's not perfect, but I liked the shapes and colours in this one.

Day 30 October Challenge

A sparkling morning, with beautiful dew drops on one of the last of the calendula - very apt as this is nearly the last of the challenge - which I've enjoyed, but am looking forward to being able to go out without a camera stuffed in my bag 'just in case'!
