The BNSF OCS passes the old Everett Station on the hi-line headed towards Seattle. Everett, WA 8/6/2023

New to Western SMT Bristol VR OCS 584H is pictured at Scarborough on 06-05-85 working for United on the open top seafront service. One of the Scotland England VR FLF exchanges in the early 1970's I often wondered who got the best deal!

Norfolk Southern's OCS made a speedy trip down the New Castle District behind all four F units. I left work early and beat these guys to Oakville, south of Muncie, by 15 minutes or so. I was hoping for a sucker hole in the clouds but that did not happen.

LEEDS RUNNING DAY

On 6/18/19 Pan Am ran its OCS up to Pittsfield for the reopening/rededication of the newly restored depot, and for the towns 200th anniversary. The train would wait on track 2 while NMWA passed, and the power would run around the train, and park it on the main so guided tours could be conducted. The train is seen here on track 2, Pete Vigue who is in charge of Cianbro Construction, which restored the depot rode in the cab, and was allowed to run the train onto the 2nd track.

This AM's Main Attraction: NS OCS #956 chugs up Philo Hill and puts on a great show. This train drips class almost as much as my sweat was by this time of the morning.

NS 950 at Marion, PA eastbound. The train is deadheading to Altoona over the Lurgan Line. Both A units are originally B&O F7s. The 4270 was built in January 1952 as B&O 937, later renumbered to 4580 before becoming MDOT 7181 and then MARC 81 after a rebuild at Morris Knudsen in 1981. The 4271 was built in August 1952 as B&O 947, renumbered to 4590 then 4557, later being rebuilt at MK in 8/82 for MDOT and becoming the 7185 and then MARC 85.

“OCS” was the term everyone used for this. Not much of one if you ask me, but, everyone has their own cup of tea. With the purchase of New England’s ‘beloved’ Class II; Pan Am Railways, a handful of CSX executives embarked on a trip from Boston, MA to Brunswick, ME to tour their newly acquired trackage. Leading the train was the original ‘Pan Am Blue’ GE C40-8 #7552, and trailing in second place was CSX EMD F40PH-2 #9999, still in the CSX YN3B.

Norfolk Southern train NS 956, the “Office Car Special” slowly climbs the grade in Jamestown, N.C. on Aug. 22, 2024, en route to Altoona, Pa. Norfolk Southern’s “Moving the Weight of the World” locomotive led the train with the Reading heritage unit trailing.
