For Macro Mondays- Obstacles

I thought I was clever and wanted to illustrate the obstacle of the groove keeping the snail from the berries. But the snail didn't care for the berries, and it went every direction it choose - the groove was no obstacle, it went over a brush handle, and it was fast too. So the snail can pass obstacles much easier than I can, it can also climb up 90° walls with nothing to hold on to and even climb upside down.

Every year for the past seven years I have attended the Grad Parade at the high school where my son graduated from. I enjoy seeing all the happy young grads all dolled up and the proud parents, and my friends like to see the fashion show. This year was so fraught with difficulties from start to finish that I have vowed never again! I think I'm getting too old for this, it was hot, people were very pushy, and my back hurt from the endless standing. Oh well, all good things must come to an end. I guess I better switch to kittens and roses :))

Something totally different this morning. We paid a visit to the National Carriage Driving championships @ Sandringham. a few representative photos. Have not been for about 12-15 years. No water splash obstacle this year unfortunately as that gives the best photos usually. A 3 day event with the 2nd day (today) being a "marathon", about 8km drive on roads & parkland leading to 8 obstacle course's that are timed with a short breating drive between each one. This was once the favorite sport of the Duke of Edinborough.

Shot at about 1.5 times life size with a Canon MPE-65mm macro lens. See a larger image / buy a print.

Moriz Jung (1885–1915) was born in the Czech Republic and later moved to Vienna to study art with Alfred Roller, Carl Otto Czeschka and Bertold Löffler. Whilst studying he published a book of coloured woodcuts called 'Freunden geschnitten und gedruckt'. He also created signage and posters for Cabaret Fledermaus and the Wiener Werkstätte. He tragically died at the young age of 29 durring World War One in a battle at the Carpathian mountains in East Galicia. We have digitally enhanced some of his woodcuts, linocuts, lithographs and book images. They are available to download and use under the CC0 license.

The unusual and odd terrain at The Devils Golf Course in Death Valley. We were there in the middle of the day, but I still wanted to create an image showing these rock and salt formations. I included some cracks in the surface that were less than 2 feet from the camera. A series of 3 images stacked for focus gave sharp results throughout.

Here's a familiar trail obstacle...deadfall and blowdowns...If you zoom this photo you'll gain a better perspective of the size of those trees. Fortunately, I didn't have to climb over...the trail swung around to the left under the tree trunks...Out in these wayplaces one has to be ready for the unexpected.
