Dr. Randy Emmons, left, event organizer, walks the participants through the obstacle course. Some robots were designed to use the rotating radio beacon, near right, for guidance.
The obstacle course builds physical and mental agility, and builds camaraderie through teamwork. Cadet Field Training is summer military and leadership training for rising yearlings at West Point. The Class of 2014 will spend four weeks at Camp Buckner training on marksmanship, Soldier First Responder, orienteering, land navigation, patrolling and close quarter combat. Their physical and mental agility is tested on obstacle course, water confidence course, live fire urban operations and a three-day field training exercise. CFT also engages yearlings in branch orientation so they can make informed decisions later on to how they will serve as Army officers. Photo by Mike Strasser, West Point Public Affairs
