Music: Cold War Kids - Hospital Beds

After more than 24 hours on the train we finally arrived it Novosibirsk at around 11 pm. Yet we had no idea where to sleep. Actually we were supposed to sleep at some friend's friend's place. But that didn't work out in the shortest time... So we arrived. We had an adress of a hotel (there were no hostels in Novosibirsk by that time) but had no idea where to go. With our backpacks and some food along. Not very comfortable to walk around. We asked a taxi driver for the fee. He was a bastard, all were bastards, they wanted simply too much money, we could have almost slept in the car for the price, or possibly buy the old Lada... Well, I am exaggerating.. Anyway, finally we asked some other people for a hotel - though the streets weren't at all crowded by that time of the day.

One told us where to find a hotel. It was not the adress we were looking for but it was not that far away. It was a big cuboid building. To our surprise the receptionest spoke fluent German. Good! We checked in, got the first night for free cause we checked in so late and had two pay for 2 nights only. in the picture above you see the view we had from the 10th floor or so. The river is called Ob.

So what does all that have to do with the Cold War Kids and hospital beds? So well, Novosibirsk is in Russia and my dad works there. Two weeks ago he was in the hospital and had a surgery on the meniscus. He was released from the hospital the day after the surgery and was able to walk soon after. When he saw a doctor in Russia this week the doctor said:" No, it is impossible, you couldn't have had a surgery with general anesthic and all that you being able to walk after two weeks..." Apparently she didn't believe him.. Is this the medical cold war???

The quaint charms of the standard Bedford OB were always a little lost on me though Mrs 'R' loves them. They were without doubt an iconic little bus in the true sense of the word but there's something not quite right to my mind with a bus you have to start by pulling the choke out. Petrol engines eh, they'll never catch on!

That said, this little beaut was something quite different and appealed to me right away when I first saw it. It's an OB but re-bodied by H V Burlingham of Blackpool with a small version of their very popular Seagull body.

Many moons ago ... on the occasion of this picture's taking, I was pleased to accept a lift back to civilization aboard it from Lathalmond museum and was instantly enthused by FFS 876.

A break from the West Highland Railway for the Dunbar Rally albeit on a Saturday - as a substitute for the usual Sunday attendance. Unfortunately only a small proportion of vehicles were there to see. ATS689 is a 1948 Bedford OB /Duple in the colours of H & M Coaches.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a town in the Franconia region of Bavaria, Germany, well known for its well-preserved medieval old town, a destination for tourists from around the world.

Rothenburg was a Free Imperial City from the late Middle Ages to 1803.

The name "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" means, in German, "Red fortress above the Tauber". This is so because the town is located on a plateau overlooking the Tauber River. As to the name "Rothenburg", some say it comes from the German words Rot (Red) and Burg (burgh, medieval fortified settlement), referring to the red colour of the roofs of the houses which overlook the river. The name may also refer to the process of retting ("rotten" in German) flax for linen production.

My best friend and companion :)

A new version of the Ob-RN, focused for a more grounded fighting style, with the fist now being an attachable weapon and with a new mode made for rocket punching.

I updated this build to have a better shape overall and some changes to the color scheme, hope you like it.

A typical murky Lake District September evening in 1976 and Mountain Goat's OB has just arrived at Ambleside from Glenridding.
