These three gorgeous Art Deco Medallions which adorn the south wall of Radio City Music Hall in Rockefeller Center in mid-town Manhattan in New York City date back to 1932 and unbeknownst to me until I was there last month, the three medallions underwent a massive restoration after six decades of exposure to the elements in the 1990’s. The original design was a beautiful collaboration between America mosaicist and painter Hildreth Meiere and master metal worker Oscar B. Bach as each is 18 feet in diameter and represent from left to right Dance, Drama & Song. The restoration was handled by the Tatti Art Conservation in 1993 chosen by Rockefeller Center’s Architecture, Planning, and Construction Department. - [ ] #developportdevelop @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @radiocitymusichall @rockefellercenter @nycurbanism @nycprimeshot @nybucketlist #microfourthirds #omd #micro43 @kehcamera

Pedestrian walkway on Williamsburg Bridge that connects Manhattan with Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. The Williamsburg Bridge when it open in 1903 it 1600 foot span was the longest suspension bridge in the world. The bridge was designed with massive stiffening trusses whose tolerances were spec’ed to withstand high winds and to support rail traffic on the span. When it was designed to support trains, trolleys, horse drawn carriages and pedestrians and was the last major bridge not designed for motor vehicles. In the 1920’s when automobile proliferation had grown, the trolley tracks were removed. Interesting tidbit is that on the Manhattan side, there is a rather large underground trolley terminal that still is in existence, not in use that was supposed to be slated for a ‘lowline’ version of the very famous and popular Highline park however the momentum of that seems to have lost its steam. - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot @nycurbanism @nybucketlist #nycprimeshot @nycprimeshot #bridges #suspensionbridge

Located on a hill of significance in Brooklyn’s Green-Wood Cemetery on the Plateau or Battle Hill is the 35 foot tall Civil War Soldiers Monument which was erected in 1869 four years after the war. The significance of the hill goes back to the American Revolution, during the Battle of Long Island on August 27, 1776 where the British engaged General George Washington’s Troops. The Civil War monument was dedicated by the City of New York to honor its dead fallen heroes and the 148,000 soldiers who enlisted for service in the Civil War. The elegance of the polished gray granite, the four cast zinc life-size soldiers standing at its base are a stark reminder when American fought American and in the end the Union was preserved but at a costly price of many many lives to which this monument honor their sacrifice. - [x] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamrac @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera @mpbcom @nycurbanism @nycprimeshot @historicgreenwood @nybucketlist #omd #microfourthirds #micro43

New York B/N 2022.

More wandering around my old photographic haunts in the early spring back east, in the heart of the Village aka Greenwich Village in Manhattan on MacDougal Street where many years ago before I was born, a young senator from Massachusetts named John Fitzgerald Kennedy kicked off what would be a successful presidential bid right on this very street. The neon lights of Off the Wall Bar and Grill and the famous delicious Artichoke Pizza both survivors of the COVID-19 pandemic, sadly many businesses here and in much of the city did not fare as well. The Village where I look to take the pulse of NYC and not happy with what I see. Activity had almost returned to pre-pandemic I guess, but much graffiti strewn throughout the neighborhood, some hastily painted over tell a different tale. Not loving the vibe of my beloved NYC, no we’re not back in the 1980’s but something’s amiss here in the USA’s biggest city…….

The Christmas Tree that’s put up under the Washington Square Park Arch annually by the Washington Square Association. The Washington Square Association was the first neighborhood organization in New York City with over 100 years of service to the neighborhood and was the city’s second civic organization after the Municipal Art Society. Washington Square Park is in the heart of Greenwich Village, surrounded by the campus of New York University. It was a very frigid night I took this picture this past December, thus the lack of people in the usually heavy trafficked Washington Square Park which created a nice focus on the Christmas tree itself. - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera #omd #microfourthirds #micro43 @nycurbanism @nycprimeshot @nycparks @nybucketlist @wspconservancy #washingtonsquarepark

Mexico week at Rockefeller Center in New York 2022 when I was back east earlier this month which returned for a second year coinciding with El Día de Muertos a Mexican holiday commemorating the dead and as such featured prominently at México week. Mexican customs and culture are a wonderful blend of Roman Catholic religious rituals intertwined with indigenous traditions celebrated by the natives. This image of the Ofrenda, an alter that honors lost love ones sat in the central plaza where today the Rockefeller Christmas Tree sits. - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot @rockefellercenter @nycurbanism @nybucketlist @nycprimeshot #nycprimeshot #diademuertos

A simple lamp post in Washington Square Park. The almost 10 acre grounds of Washington Square Park once a potters field when it the northernmost part of the city, a military marching field and in the century plus a meeting place, cultural center and one of my favorite people watching locations in the city. Activity this 2021 holiday season has returned to pre-pandemic conditions.

The incredible concentration of cast-iron buildings in SOHO New York are one of the distinctive features of this Manhattan neighborhood. The fact is district is referred to as the SOHO Cast-iron Historic district and is the home to the largest collection of full and partial cast-iron building on the entire planet. Cast-iron had been a key component of bridges but here in the part of the country in this city, cast-iron was not only used structurally for the buildings but as part of the facade as well. This New York developed innovation was used extensively as cast-iron edifices was less expensive to build than stone or brick and were much faster to build and fabricate as the components were made in molds rather than hand carved. They have held up amazingly well as most of the approximate 250 cast-iron buildings in New York were built between 1850’s to late 1800 so are well beyond the 100 year mark. This image show a rather typical cast-iron design, repetitive elegant columns up and down the entire façade. - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america @apple #iphone13pro @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @kehcamera @nycurbanism @nycprimeshot @nybucketlist

An iconic shot of the New York City skyline taken front the top of the Rockefeller Centre.

The view from the Top Of The Rock is so amazing and it's one of my favourite places to visit in New York.

This is one of my favourite shots with the city skyline, cloudy skies and the sunrays shining through, hope you like it?

The Prometheus Statue at Rockefeller Center who from this perspective appears to be gazing at the ice rink, yes that famous ice rink that visitors and natives alike wait on line for the privilege of skating on the rink with onlookers watch their proficiency or not on the ice. The Prometheus statue which is statistically the fourth most recognized statue in the United States only behind the Lincoln Memorial, the Statue of Liberty and Mount Rushmore, was an integral part of the design of Rockefeller Center that has become the most iconic piece of art. Ralph Manship created the 18 foot tall gilded cast bronze 8 ton statue in 1934 as it was a key part of the general theme of Rockefeller Center’s overall theme “New Frontiers and the March of Civilization”. The tale of Prometheus, the Greek Titan that ignores the wishes of the gods and gives fire to man is representative of mankind ever striving for more knowledge, progress and a greater state of being. - [ ] #developportdev @gothamtomato @developphotonewsletter @omsystem.cameras #excellent_america #omsystem @bheventspace @bhphoto @adorama @tamracphoto @tiffencompany #usaprimeshot #tamractales @rockefellercenter @nycurbanism @nybucketlist @nycprimeshot #nycprimeshot #microfourthirds #omd #m43photography @olympuspassion #olympuspassion
