On August 18, 2015, NYCDOT's Mobility Management Program invited travel trainers and mobility specialists to a Travel Training/Orientation and Mobility Workshop on Street Furniture. The goal of the workshop was to share DOT practices on street furniture and obtain feedback from educators on best practices and challenges.

On Wednesday, January 11, 2017 NYC DOT and NYPD discuss NYC Mayor's announcement that 2016 saw the fewest fatalities ever on NYC streets.

Brooklyn Public Library's annual Bike the Branches event is approaching and DOT has offered a free bicycle helmet fitting and giveaway event to be sure all the riders have their heads protected!

NYC DOT, NYC Bike Share, Citi Bike and our co-sponsors held a community planning workshop for the expansion of the bike share system in Manhattan’s CB11 (Harlem) on June 30, 2015.

 

This event was co-sponsored by Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Council Member Inez Dickens, Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, Borough President Gale Brewer, State Senator Bill Perkins, State Senator José Serrano, Assembly Member Robert Rodriguez, Assembly Member Keith Wright, Community Board 11 and New Harlem East Merchants Association.

New York City Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the NYPD and the TLC, will hold a citywide Day of Public Awareness in advance of the new citywide default speed limit lowering from 30 to #25MPH, which takes effect Friday, November 7th. Street teams alerting motorists to the new limit will be at over a dozen locations during the day.

NYC DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg joined UNICEF, NYPD Chief Chan, Zoleka Mandela, WHO and Michelle Yeoh joined together to #SaveKidsLives with road safety.

NYCDOT will be holding a public planning workshop to discuss Tillary Street in Downtown Brooklyn in the context of an upcoming capital reconstruction project (currently scheduled for 2012), which will offer the opportunity to improve how this roadway works for all of its users. The workshop will include a presentation by NYCDOT Staff, small group discussions, and hands-on participation in concept development.

New NYCDOT Clearview street blades at the intersection of South Railroad and Montreal Avenues on Staten Island. Unfortunately, NYCDOT has jumped on the Clearview bandwagon.

The New York Historical Society took their art collection to the streets in the public art installation entitled Making History Matter. Replica portraits of Abraham Lincoln and Peter Cooper were strategically positioned in the Astor Place Triangle to celebrate New York’s 400th anniversary as well as the life and accomplishments of the two men. Cooper established the venerable Cooper Union College, located adjacent to the installation, and Lincoln delivered an important presidential campaign speech at the same location.

The NYCDOT requires a signal to have a property decal that includes the manufacturer's name along with general information.

On Tuesday, March 1 NYC DOT Brooklyn Borough Commissioner Keith Bray was joined by Council Members Stephen Levin and Antonio Reynoso to announce the North Williamsburg/Greenpoint transportation study.

 

The City will begin the study this month the City will collect neighborhood data in a range of areas: street safety, public transportation, accessibility, congestion, travel times, and parking.
