“Keeping New York City’s urban landscape an interesting, attractive place for New Yorkers and visitors has always been a priority for our Administration, and one major way we’ve done it is through public art,” -Mayor Bloomberg.
Brooklyn-based artist Corinne Ulmann specializes in large-scale public art designs. Her Green Screen was one of four winning designs of the urbancanvas Design Competition, a contest to help beautify New York City’s urban landscape with art at construction sites. The competition challenged professional artists and designers to create artwork for temporary protective structures to bring an element of beauty to what is often an eyesore. Green Screen was installed on Thames Street to beautify one of the main entrances to the 9/11 Memorial.

Artist John Chadwell has partnered with the NYCDOT Art Program and the Kew Gardens Improvement Association, Inc. to present the mural “Eastbound, Westbound” along the 82nd Avenue Bridge at Grenfell and Austin Streets in Kew Gardens, Queens. The eastbound side of the mural is a scenic view of the Montauk/Orient Point Long Island shoreline while the westbound side of the mural depicts the Manhattan skyline. The project aims to beautify, activate and enliven a pedestrian walkway.

Straus Media and the New York Society for Ethical Culture hosted a town hall meeting on January 21, 2015.
Moderated by Kyle Pope, Editor in Chief of Our Town, West Side Spirit, Our Town Downtown, Chelsea Clinton News, and Westsider.
NYC DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg joined speakers: Jill Abramson, former executive editor of the New York Times, Council Member Helen Rosenthal, and Dana Lerner of Families for Safe Streets to discuss pedestrian safety on the Upper West Side.
Artist Rena Leinberger transposed images of the veiled environment behind a fence on Vernon Boulevard and Queens Plaza South onto its face. She took six photographs shot in documentary fashion of the view beneath the Queensboro Bridge. These photographs were then re-photographed with everyday objects, in a state of falling, in front of them suggesting precipitation, celebration, and elusiveness. Never the artwork nor the scene they depict can ever be viewed in entirety, partially obscured by the flurry.

On Wednesday, October 15, 2014 the New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg, NYPD Transportation Chief Thomas Chan, Taxi & Limousine Commissioner Meera Joshi and elected officials unveiled the city's 25 Days to #25MPH public awareness campaign in advance of the new default speed limit lowering from 30 to 25 MPH, which takes effect Friday, November 7th.
Choreographer Pavel Sustiak, together with Palissimo, broke boundaries addressing the complexity of public and private spaces showing that art can occur when and where you least expect it.
Performances began with dancer Lindsey Dietz Marchant appearing to have missed her ferry and pressing her body to the closed doors in the boarding area at the ferry terminal. A small group of individuals then wandered over to scan the schedule that Lindsey was standing near – while they did, she stood frozen with one foot raised and spread her arms. Performers Gina Bashour and Jeff Kent Jacobs then morphed from civilians to contorted beings at which point most onlookers became confused not knowing whether to move or watch until it became clear a choreographed dance piece was being performed right in front of their eyes. To accompany the choreography, a sound bar was set up to which onlookers could plug in to hear different soundtracks thereby creating individualized unique experiences with the artwork.
