Numbers we are all probably very familiar with these days. The red label is about 7/8 of an inch wide and the entire photo shows about 1 1/2 inches. For Macro Mondays: Numbers and my POTD.
"Oh, well maybe just one, then. Or two. Or...what the heck, it's Sunday, after all!"
My interpretation of the Self Portrait Sunday theme "Numbers".
The 25 Pounder Gun at the Glebe Dunbar on the Geograph website.
The Ordnance QF 25-pounder, or more simply 25-pounder or 25-pdr, was the major British field gun and howitzer during the Second World War, possessing a 3.45-inch (87.6 mm) calibre. It was introduced into service just before the war started, combining high-angle and direct-fire, relatively high rates of fire, and a reasonably lethal shell in a highly mobile piece. It remained the British Army's primary artillery field piece well into the 1960s, with smaller numbers serving in training units until the 1980s. Quoted from Wikipedia

A picture of a watch without anything else is at worst an image of someone else’s art and at best can be a showcase for the photographer’s expertise at exposure and composition. This image has more meaning to me than you may grasp at first glance so I’ll complete the story here. SPOILER ALERT: It’s a bit long so if you’d like to skip it ... that’s Okay. Just remember to enjoy Today.
The title may attract the attention of a few people already familiar with the acronym. More later ... I purchased the timepiece pictured some 50 or more years ago and it has always been a disappointment ... it still looks almost pristine! It’s promise was that it was self-winding, that is by some engineering magic once it was wound and put on my wrist it somehow was supposed to stay wound enough to keep “good time”. Well, here’s the basic truth; if I wind it up and let it lay on the shelf it will keep perfect time until it runs down in a couple of days. If put it on my wrist it will randomly stop for 5 or 10 minutes at a time from the first hour on ... making it functionally useless!
In the mid-80s after a life changing event I learned that I can only live One Day at a Time (ODaaT). I realized this independent worthless timepiece is in fact a constant reminder that I only have today ... yesterday is history and tomorrow is not yet in play.
It has no other numbers than today’s calendar number and day ... today ... if I keep it wound. My every attempt to use it for my purposes by wearing it ... my actions ... screws up it’s basic time keeping function so if I let go and let it do it’s thing on the shelf all works just fine. I’m some 16 years into retirement and I removed my “working” watch the day I retired ... I know where time is being kept and I can freely live TODAY. If you got this far Happy Macro Monday ... and enjoy today. HMM Everyone.

Numbers are universal and are everywhere we look. I often wonder how the world would manage if there were no numbers.
What do you think?
NB: The above are NZ petrol prices, per litre, at a discount petrol retailer. They equate to about US$7.89 per gallon.
Yesterday I posted a shot of a single waxwing from this flock. Even though the birds in the background are hopelessly out of focus, I posted this image to give a sense of the numbers - easily 500 in the whole flock.
In addition to several Mountain Ash trees along this road, the Waxwings were attracted to the snow melt water on the road surface When a vehicle approached, they would fly back to the trees. It was like they were waiting for a red light before they came back down. It reminded me of playing road hockey in bygone days when someone would yell "Car !"

Dreaming of my number ten
Who i see, every day when
I do measure, my feelings deep
That fill my day and my sleep
With sweet dreams, i do measure
With sweet thoughts of my treasure
Who fills my thoughts and my slumber
She is my ten, such a beautiful number
We've already got 2 N°27s and both are far prettier than this one. Which was pretty much a standard design in Perros. Although this one looks like it was two number stuck together.

In the Netherlands , more than 10 billion eggs are produced each year . On the average , the Dutchman consumes around 200 of them per year . All eggs are marked , and the number refers to the producer (i.e. the farm, not the chicken) .
"een ei" = an egg / one egg
