A very busy summer schedule has kept me away from social media for a while, so it feels good to be able to post a new image again.

I came across this place completely by accident while trying to decide on a future international trip, and immediately knew that no matter where this place was located, I just had to photograph here. Now, this beautiful and unusual beach has instantly been added to my favorite places list. This is one of those locations I could easily photograph every day, for at least a month.

I will include all the details about this magical place in my next post.

We decided that it would be fun to go back to the "beginning" and noob it up for one night. That picture can be found here: Snowglobe: 😂 Noob Group Shot!.

... riot like situation during the protests against the presidential election last Friday. This shot was taken right after a car was set on fire ... I've been off Flickr for a bit. Now that the snow is starting to melt away, the robins are taking advantage of all last fall's leftover crabapples still laying down on the ground.

Now that the little flowers on my dwarf butterfly bush have opened, my summer butterfly guests have arrived for their daily breakfast and lunch. This is my first butterfly encounter, other then the skippers who have been in my gardens since spring. This is a Great Spangled Fritillary (thank you Steve for the identification). Hopefully the swallowtails will be next ;-)

Now that's a stretch! This cool conehead was perfectly balanced between two leaves and looked just about like a connecting stem. Sword-bearing coneheads are specialized katydids and can sing a pretty loud raspy tune as dusk turns into night.

The two Ravens took exception to the Kestrel hunting in 'their' territory so chased it off!

No! Not taken this Autumn, but a previously unposted shot from January this year. I don't normally go back in the archives too much but in tribute to the forthcoming Short Eared Owl season (and the fact it has rained or been miserable weather for at least 2 weeks) I have included a shot of my closest encounter to date with a perched bird.

I had spent a few hours at the site when one of the group decided they needed to go home. As this owl was perched on a post which they would have to walk past I decided to go along too and see how far we got before it flew off. Foolishly didn't take my tripod so had to struggle hand holding the 600mm - but I think the fact he/she didn't fly until we were quite close gave me extra strength.

Taken during the golden hour.

Although we do have a year round population, with some breeding in the North, numbers are swelled in the winter with migrants from Scandanavia, Russia and Iceland. I think this is one of them.

Hmmm. Now I understand where the name Glenfinnan comes from: Saint Finnnan, He's the Irish guy who set up a pub on the Green Isle in the middle of Loch Shiel. A couple of years ago a bronze bell (for calling 'time') that had been chained to the altar of his chapel on the tiny Green Isle was nicked by a thieving canoeist. Sadly, it has never been recovered. Anyhow, here is another splendid view from the Loch Shiel area.
