the violet-backed starling male (cinnyricinclus leucogaster) is one of the most beautiful african bird.

mainly frugivorous those birds are erratic.not easy to find at short distance.

but in central kruger area they feed mostly on some fruit plants and if you see/ear those starlings around you can try to wait them close to the fruits.probably they will arrive!

anyway in 3 consecutive years in the same area/period i found

2 specimen 2017 +50 2018 just 1 in 2019...they are simply erratic and to meet them along the roads isnt easy.

in photography the trouble is their plumage.it is really "iridescent" so the light gestion is very complicate.under the sun light the iridescence is a real problem.

HSoS :-)

Rainy day blues. Way harder than it looks.

Spirited, edgy, confident and one hell of a zest for life.

All I need is simple. The sun, a chair in the front yard and free time i.e. from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed. When can I get all of them?

Happy Friday and great weekend!

Anything can and usually does happen !!!

- Is not easy....

It is not....

Is not easy....

I wasn't the hired photographer but the couple asked me to go ahead and take photos. The hired photographer was a cousin who said she'd do it for nothing.

So I figured I'd add my nothing price and just wander around looking for unique shots that most weddings don't get.

It was interesting and strange for me as I only knew the mom and dad of the groom and had no clue as to who the rest of the 100+ people where at all.

It was very informal.

The rev or pastor seemed to know everyone and asked me how I fit in.

The funny/sad thing about it all was that it really hit me at the wedding that now I was a

WIDOW.

Still, it gave me purpose for the day and I enjoyed the people challenge.

Has anyone else done this one?

I sat there for hours trying to get the flash to bounce off the aluminium-foil to light the camera and my hands. And FINALLY its done. You can see the dust on the surface but I don't care anymore. I did it!

With the Nikon d3000, 18 mm selfmade lens and the built in flash.

Another woman showed up with some fantastic wedding couple poses. I helped her to set things up and grabbed a few shots of my own while the other gal was working.

I learned a lot by watching and helping.

I learned that I really don't want to work weddings and certainly not as a 'pro'.

I'm going to call my girlfriend Jackie O. I don't know if she'll get the reference, she may be too young to know who she was.

Her husband was my husband's Hospice Nurse. We have been friends since 2018.

9th September 2018:

This wasn't my intended photo for today. It's been a beautiful day, weather wise and I'd hoped to get out.

Sadly I went down with a tummy bug overnight and haven't left the apartment. Or no further than the garden with Izzy or Rufus.

The latest puzzle is taking time, but that's also partly because I'm trying to do too many things at once. Also, it's not easy, but I'll give it my best.

I shall probably catch up with you all tomorrow, when hopefully I'll be feeling more like my old self.

Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :O)

Well this was Manualy shot --No trigger and so it was noteasy getting the shots. Near Guymon OK --this Supercell beast was carring Baseballs -and deadly lightening as u can see. The wind was hitting me at 55MPH and getting a clear shot with a very slow shutter --almost impossible--but i got em-hell yes I did--as classic a stormy scene as one can get ! -------- Tken about 2011 May

im kinda ocd about it.

Yesterday I decided to try my hand at baby photography. We headed over to my Sister-In-Laws house to try and shoot Jake. Well, I tip my hat to those of you that do this style of photography.

I think I will stick with capturing stuff getting blown to pieces !

Happy Monday :-)

after reading kristin's beautiful post, i took up the challenge.

and hats off to those who do this self portrait thang regularly.

explore - thank you

Apparently, my home and I am featured at www.sfgirlbybay.com today! Whee!

A little bit about these items: the nesting baboushka dolls were given to me by my best friend when he went traveling abroad. The bridal piggybank was given to me as a baby, and it's very precious to me. I love the kitsch of these two side by side.

This is significantly better large.

I did have a few minutes alone with the groom and he loved the idea of having their photo taken in his grandmother's shade garden.

I took quite a few candid shots and I can see the attraction of street photography.

The coolest part was finding the groom's youngest brother who had an old film Minolta camera and finding out that he loves photography.

Helping the young man with his camera and having discussions regarding photography was the highlight of my day.

Good morning from the kitchen!

A first attempt and a last.....

Hmmmmmm....when the recipe says 20 minutes to prepare and "easy" I'm all over it - right? Especially this time of year when none of us have time to do much than hustle.

So I was sadly realizing 2 hours in that this recipe isn't what it says!

I live in the desert - the dry warm desert especially this time of year so I was thinking that I might have to omit some of the powdered sugar to make the dough easier to work with.....not even close! I had to add tons more to make it the right rolling consistency. Then I figure with as much experience I have with all of my polymer clay pin toppers -how hard can it be to roll two colors of dough into a rope? Well the answer is HARD!!! Oh my gosh! This was a bear to do! Ugh!

So I finally fiddled enough with two pieces of pink and aqua dough to make a few little ropes.

It was weird working with this stuff. It dries out so fast that you get all these little cracks in it and then it doesn't look pretty : (

Well needless to say I'm not going to be rolling and roping the remainder into cute twists of melt in your mouth candy. Rather I am rolling them into little balls to save a ton of time.

More pics of the "ball" version" coming in a bit.....

Oh...but I guess I do have some good news to report - the taste and consistency are amazing! They melt on your tongue and are lightly pepperminty - really a delight for your taste buds

Guess what it is ?

No clue for that one, gnark gnark gnark

Better on Black

This is by far the scariest thing I've ever done. This is the Knife's Edge Trail toward Baxter Peak the highest spot in Maine. I crawled across this with mile high drops to my left and right. Still can't believe I made it.

I see images of beautiful colorful bubbles of oil floating on water ~~piece of cake I say to myself as I get out the oil and the bowl of water. I drop the oil into the water and then add a drop of food coloring---hmm the whole mess turns blue--so I mix up some more oil in a bowl by itself and whip some more food color--yellow ( with just a hint of red) this time into the oil thinking that the yellow oil droplets will stay yellow--noooo--as soon as the yellow oil hits the blue water the yellow starts dissipating out into the water in green tentacles. And the residue of the colored mess turns brown somehow--

NOT EASY to get those beautiful little colored oil bubbles--how do they do that?

On a personal note, my daughter is in her 33 week of pregnancy and has been put on strict bed rest--soooo--guess who the caretaker is for my little grandson everyday, all day for the next however many weeks she gets to--not complaining just explaining that I wont get the opportunities to get out to take shots---I would like to--and will have to improvise. Thanks for being my flickr friends.

It's not easy! It takes an artistic eye. Let me know if you find it. Describe it.
