NOTE:
The standard disclaimer still applies: That's a wooden decoy -- anchored
to the bottom of the lake -- that the egret is standing on.

Just had the sensor cleaned on the Nikon D40. Lovely to see sky shots with no blemishes!

Note: A large percentage of my "landscape" photos (including the ones in this set) are now copyright-protected, and are not available for downloads and free use. You can view them here in Flickr, but if you would like prints, enlargements, framed copies, and other variations, please visit my SmugMug "NYC HDR" gallery by clicking here.

I tried an HDR (high dynamic range) photo once a year ago, but for some reason never pursued it. But it seems that more of and more of the "interesting" photos that I see on Flickr are HDR shots, so I decided to give it another try. The first of these HDR shots were taken from the rooftop of my apartment building at sunset, on the Sunday evening of 4th of July weekend. Subsequent shots (including this one) have been taken out on the street, from the terrace of my apartment at night, and walking through Central Park at mid-day...
This photo is one of a group of ten that I took in the "Sheep Meadow" area at the south end of Central Park. I knew that the trees, the grass, the buildings, and the sky/clouds would be stationary, and I figured that I could pick a time/scene where most, if not all, of the picnickers and sunbathers were reasonably stationary. But there were always a few people in motion, especially the young kids; and though the "ghosting" effect of their movement is sometimes interesting, I think I've concluded that it gets annoying after a while. But aside from that, it is possible to take these HDR sequences (which, in the case of these Sheep Meadow shots, involve the merging of 5 separate images into one composite) in a handheld fashion, without a tripod.
I still have a *lot* to learn about this stuff, but even as a first attempt I'm staggered by what the tonal-mapping software programs (Photomatix, in my case) are capable of doing...
Note the chewed plastic trap , right through so only the sides kill the mouse now.
The mice really like the Hemp seed until the trap suddenly closes.
We had the trap up in the roof near the fibre optic cable and gas heater for a few months where the mice enjoyed the plastic…
Westward view on the BN of the former CB&Q depot at Friend, NE, in September 1979. Note the neon station sign on the street side of the station that was a feature of many of the Q's stations in Nebraska. The depot and neon sign survive today.
There are many details, so I've added a number of Flickr Notes to explain how things have changed. Even after all these years, some of the objects still exist, although most have been replaced and are long forgotten.
The shapes depicted here remind me of the musical notes on the sheet music when I learned to play the piano.
Thank you for viewing my photograph.
The Blue Note Elephant is a rare species that is unparalleled as the smallest elephant subspecies: Musically gifted, they are famous for their blues-like trumpeting! I also like to celebrate this iconic label ! Have fun!

Saturday Self Challenge
This week's challenge will be to photograph something in the shape of a cube. It can be made out of any type material (including ice) as long as it is in the shape of a 3 dimensional cube, either square or rectangular in shape. Process as much or as little as you like. I look forward to seeing your creativity!
*Edit to add that more than one cube shaped item can be in your image.*
The cube in the photo is a note pad block bought from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution shop in Sheringham in Norfolk. The tops of the letter T’s are just missing from the pictures on the sides as the block has been in use for a few weeks, but it still retains its cube shape.
I started off processing the image in Affinity Photo to multiply the single photo to form 16, then I did a few adjustments in Photoshop Express, before the final square crop on the iPad photo app.
Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.
Textures used: CartePostale and Famille by French Kiss - Thankyou
This photo has been on my computer for some while. I thought I would try a textured background this time. Would appreciate your comments. Thanks.

Handwritten and clipped to a suicide fence on a bridge.
Unclear if the notes were tied to suicides or more likely just a convenient place to clip on to.
