The ship Fram which was deliberately frozen into the north polar ice cap & traveled with the ice for 3 years before coming out the other side.
Reading the many letters, sorting the requests, making toys, wrapping them and getting Santa's chores done, are all in a day's work for any elf.
This is one of 12 scenes displayed at various places including the Canberra Civic in 2006.
Scene designed and created by StudioM at our workshop in 2005 - copyright held. Scene sold AFTER this photo was taken to a Promotions company which put in some simplistic up and down motion by means of an overhead rotating shaft and cam system. This is a well used method to add some simple up and down motion to such scenes. Many people who saw the scene in our workshop before its sale enjoyed it in its 'frozen' animation state as shown here. It has been exhibited many times by this promotions company in many places and media. However, any claims by this promotions company or its puppeteer director to being 'the creator', 'the mastermind' or 'creative force' behind it are COMPLETELY FALSE, deliberately misleading and an infringement of StudioM's copyright. The brown book on the shelf gives the credits to the true designers and creators and by copyright law should still be there, untouched and visible. The promotions company saw it for the first time as it is shown here on delivery, and had no input into the design or creation of this scene other than supplying the bare aluminium frame and plywood floor. Another chance to play with the coolest train set I have ever built. This little loco weighs in at 900 lbs. I have pulled as many as thiry adults through the woods. All the track was hand laid. The road bed and rack was transported in the train. We went through 100 yards of crushed rock building the main line. There where over 6000 railroad ties. We had bridges, stations, curves hills, you name it. All hand made. The cars could care two adults or three or four of Santa's special freinds. This was what made up the 90's for me. So very special times for me!
There are four "North Poles" that can be defined in the Arctic: (http://www.athropolis.com/arctic-facts/fact-poles-four.htm)
1) Geographic North Pole (also known as True North): The northernmost point of the Earth as determined by the northern axis of its rotation. It has a known fixed position, at latitude 90° North.
2) Magnetic North Pole: A moving location where lines of magnetic force enter and exit the Earth vertically. The north point of a magnetic compass points to this pole. It's location was discovered by James Clark Ross in 1831.
3) Geomagnetic North Pole: The pole of the Earth's geomagnetic field that surrounds the Earth and extends into space as the magnetosphere. This is the centre of the region in which the Northern Lights can be seen.
4) North Pole of Inaccessibility: At approximately 85°N-175°W, this represents the point on the surface of the Arctic Ocean which is the farthest distance (about 1100 km / 684 miles) from any coastline.
