At Broomhill Sculpture Garden, Devon.

Attractive pub sign from Barnstaple North Devon.

Can anyone identify this shrub? Its flowers have a wonderful 'late summer' vanillary scent. It has grown to a height of six feet or more and a spread of at least ten feet. I think it may be a variety of hebe.

We took a a walk into Ilfracombe. It has changed very little in the 40 odd years I have been visiting North Devon.

Just outside the village of Swimbridge in North Devon a milestone inscribed with '5/BARUM'

Recently rescued and restored milestone in West Devon at Bury Cross on the old road to Torrington from Hatherleigh

The old Barnstaple to Bideford Railway Line is now a cycle/foot path making up part of the SW Coast Path.

This view is taken looking across the River Torridge towards the Old Bideford Bridge and Bideford itself.

In the foreground is the rotting hulk of a once substantial boat.

The path was used to film a programme in the series James May's Toy Stories where a model railway was laid along the path.

Water Fountain

Found on the West Somerset Railway. Isn't it wonderful? I love that the Victorians liked to make utilitarian objects decorative as well as useful.

Three year old heiffer, trying to give birth to a stillborn calf. She seemed bent on killing any human that came within range. After protracted attempts by our vet to save her, she became very dangerous - and after a very narrow escape I and the vet decided that the only course of action was to shoot her. Fortunately the rifleman had steady nerves. He was standing between the gates when she saw him and charged. He dropped her fractions of a second before she hit the lightweight tubular steel gate. An extraordinary experience: Devons are normally very placid animals.

The street facade, built in 1884 to designs by W H Gould, of the former Congregationalist Church. Now 'The Lantern', home of the Ilfracombe Farmers' Market.
