I would like you to join me on our tour of the North Eastern Québec (Gaspésie) - Gatineau - Matane. It is important to get out of the house during this COVID pandemic for a change in scenery.

We finally arrived in Percé, Québec which is on the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula. It is one of the world's largest natural arches located in water and is considered a geologically and historically rich natural icon.

We were able to walk close to the rock when the tide was out, although not recommended. We did not go as far as the rock only to the edge of the beach.

1598

Alfonso II, the last Duke of the Este family, dies and the territories of the Duchy of Ferrara pass to the Papal State. In the meantime, the Po Delta advanced northwards with branches of Tramontana, Levante and Scirocco.

The Po di Tramontana, in particular, began with its sediments to raise the depths of the lagoon towards Chioggia.

1600-1604

For fear that the north-eastern expansion of the Delta would bury the Venice lagoon, in the early 1600s the Po was diverted south towards the Sacca di Goro with an artificial canal which is its current bed. This intervention called "Taglio di Porto Viro", determined the beginning of the formation of the modern Delta.

The old bed became a navigable canal, the Canal Bianco-Po di Levante. If before 1600 the Delta expanded by about 53 hectares a year, from 1604 to 1840 it increased to 135 hectares a year.

LNER Class V2 'GREEN ARROW' A loco quite a few enthusiasts would love to see back on the mainline and heritage railways circuit once again. In March 2019 it was reported that the National railway museum had made reference that No4771 was to be considered for a return to mainline running again but no definate plans to overhaul her were made.

The area surrounding Kestor Rock on the North Eastern side of Dartmoor is full of Bronze and Iron Age artefacts. Apart from large round houses and reaves (walls to separate tribal land) we came upon stone rows. This one was particularly long and consistet of double rows in parts. I can't get enough exploring those ancient sites and immersing into Bronze Age history!

With apologies for mangling a classic Monty Python quotation, 37083 heads away from North Perrott between Yeovil and Crewkerne with a ballast train.

37083 was a North Eastern-based locomotive for virtually all of its working life: built by Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns at Darlington in 1962, it spent the first 30 years of its life based in the North East of England. However, for a six month holiday in 1991 the still BR blue-liveried loco was based at Cardiff Canton as part of the DCWA pool. In July 1991 it moved back to the North East, where it stayed until storage in 1994 and cutting at Immingham in 2000.

I always enjoy a trip over to Dartmoor in order to try and photograph some of the autumn colours. This year I planned two new locations on the north eastern side of the moor.

Excited as ever my two companions Hoof🐎 and Horace🐷 were on it like a rash, like many they are trying to reduce their carbon footprint and in doing so have firstly been bottling up their botty coughs💨💨 instead of letting the wind blow free so to speak and sending this gas off to the recycling facility, poor recycling centre operatives🙈.

Secondly H & H have been putting their engineering backgrounds to good use and have built themselves an electric car powered by old washing machine motors they have collected, a form of upcycling you could say🚙.

Car loaded off we went, Horace at the helm of the electric car, all was going well, we crossed the boarder from Cornwall into Devon without being challenged. Just about to take the road to our first location the electric car ground to a shuddering halt😱.

Horace looked embarrassed, Hoof laughed, I asked Horace watt (oh dear) he thought the problem was, Horace responded “I didn’t realise the journey was as far, we are going to need a longer cable.

Thank you so much for viewing my photos, the comments and banter are so appreciated, have a lovely weekend.

Tangara pie / Magpie tanager / Cissopis leverianus

The magpie tanager (Cissopis leverianus ) is a South American species of tanager. It is the only member of the monotypic genus Cissopis. As suggested by its common name, this blue-black and white species is superficially reminiscent of a European magpie. With a total length of 25–30 cm (10–12 in), a large percentage of which is tail, it is the longest species of tanager. It weighs 69-76 g.

It is widespread in humid tropical and subtropical woodland, plantations, second growth, and parks in South America east of the Andes. It is absent from drier regions (e.g. the Caatinga) and most of north-eastern Brazil. In densely forested regions, it mainly occurs in relatively open sections (e.g. near major rivers). In such regions it is spreading with deforestation, which opens up the habitat. It is largely restricted to lowlands, but occurs up to an altitude of 2,000 m (6,600 ft) on the east Andean slopes. It is common throughout most of its range, but rarer in the Guianas.

Typically occurs in conspicuous, noisy pairs or groups of up to 10 individuals. Commonly takes part in mixed-species flocks. Often moves long tail up and down. Eats seed, fruits and insects. The cup-shaped nest is lined with grass, leaves or other plant materials and is located low in trees near the ground or in shrubs in dense vegetation. The 2 eggs are reddish-brown with brown spots. The incubation time is 12–13 days in captivity.
