Day 104 of the 365 days challenge.

I got the most pleasant surprise ever today; when my sister showed up to carpool with my mom, my daughter and me to a graduation party, my nephew Alex was with her.

My sisters are twins and 15 years older than me; Alex is my oldest niece or nephew, at only four years younger than me. I was never physically close to my family growing up-- we moved to Montana when I was in 4th grade, and my siblings all stayed in and around the midwest. My sister Becky did move to Montana for a year or two though. Alex was in third grade and I was in middle school, but even so, he's probably the closest thing to a friend I'd made in my family.

Now, don't get me wrong. These days, my niece Ashley is one of my favorite people to hang out with. Erin gets me laughing. No one is better with Gwendolyn than my nephew Jake, and I feel like I can count on Dexter for pretty much anything. But Alex and I go way back.

The kid I would run around singing along to the radio with is now a mental health specialist in the Army-- the 82nd Airborne to be exact. He's been in Afghanistan for months, and he's home until the 22nd. Then it's back to Afghanistan. I guess he's the only mental health specialist in Aghanistan and Iraq, so he's been awfully busy. He's home in time to meet his newborn daughter, and to see his three-year-old. I need to pencil in some karaoke time with him, as well as concurrent time for serious drinking.

Words can't express how happy I am that he's home, even if it's just for a little while.

Fun fact: he helped me come up with this idea after going 40 hours without sleep.

Day 198 of the 365 days challenge.

Wacky hair day FTW!

This probably looks so emo because I spent the whole day listening to the best songs Mike Doughty ever wrote about being addicted to heroin.

40 grand in the hole

scraping my dreams out of the sugar bowl

my love for you’s corrupt

write down the words and then I snort them up

when will I love someone?

When will someone be mine?

40 grand in the hole

I’m gonna open it up and let my yearning shine

Hours that I have slept

Slumping down down like a narcolept

Surrendering to joy

Standing in line at Teriyaki Boy

When will I hear the click?

When will I know that it is time to split?

What is the use of it?

What is my life without the heart at risk?

woke up this morning with yucky red eyes and headed straight to the eye doctor. he took a few good looks and then started disinfecting the part of his weird ophtamologists' chair i'd just put my chin on.

"i won't shake your hand on the way out", he said. "this is viral and quite likely rather contagious. it'll take up to 12 weeks to be totally alright. here's some cortisone drops to lessen the redness and some antibiotics, just in case it is bacterial after all. and don't be surprised, those cortisone drops hurt. and come back in october to check for long term damage."

gnah.

thank you, roskilde dust full of things i really don't want to know about.

[oh, and this was snapped after the supposedly redness reducing eye drops. i look perpetually stoned. which kinda sucks.]

Roughin' It [157/365] - One of the best (and worst) things about camping is the fact that you have no access to showers. Many girls that I know hate not being able to do their hair and makeup, but I enjoy the "freedom" of not having to worry about what I look like for the weekend. It's so nice to have a long, warm shower when you get home! We had another great day camping... it was cold outside but we were lucky to have a rain-free day. Jackie and I are sitting in our tent in this photo, and I think we each have about 5 layers of clothing on.... I probably took the photo while wearing mittens. I miss the sunshine, but we didn't let it ruin our weekend!

No make-up, before my shower - as hubby had to go to work and I did not wake up early enough to shower until after breakfast. (had a little 'rendez-vous' with hubby in a hotel in Calgary as I have an out-of-town appointment, and he works here for now)

This is also submitted to the discussion "simply you".... this is as simple as I get.. no make up, blemishes visible...but, I'm thankful the shot was taken by hubbys webcam and not my 'real' camera as it does not pick up on my imperfections as well!

Missing a chunk of my eyelashes. Not to mention my rosacea is acting up a bit. Guess I'll never need to wear blush.

HaikugirlOz recommended this app. It's quite good for improving iPhone photos. . Multitasking: learning new app, recharging iphone, taking daily image photograph, relaxing on the couch.

So, this is me taking a photo using Camera+ of my netbook screen.

straight from gym, to shower, to 365.

straight from camera too - this is me

one word: Stress.
