The Nimbus Dam is a base load hydroelectric dam on the American River near Folsom, California. Approximately 8,700 acre feet of water is retained by the dam.
Built as a forbear regulatory lake to divert water into he South Folsom Canal, Nimbus Dam is located about 1,500 feet upstream of the Hazel Avenue Bridge over the Lower American River. It has 12 flood control gates and a hydro generating station (seen in the foreground of the photograph). The dam backs water up nearly to the base of Folsom Dam, some six and half miles upstream.
