Happy first day of Spring! 💐Happy Vernal Equinox! Happy Aries season! And also, my water bill is due today. 😬

I’m reposting this image and my original caption because it seems appropriate (again, unfortunately) after more tragic, hateful losses in the USA this past week. Springtime calls for great change — bringing light to what was once shadowed; beckoning the cold, bare terrain to grow once again. Over the course of our existence, opportunities for learning and growing seem to always cycle through — so long as we have the courage to feel the discomfort of the growing pains. I truly believe we humans can do better (I mean, I know I am far from perfect), and there is always room for us to grow with the seasons...

We live in a colorful world, filled with a wide assortment of pigmentation. From the flowers to the sky, the humans to the skyscrapers — every facet of life is painted with a variety of colors. 🎨 Maybe this is by mistake. Maybe it’s on purpose. ‍♀️ Either way, this fact is to our good fortune, because to exist in a monotonous world — a world lacking in diversity — sure wouldn’t be as beautiful or interesting... 🤔💭💐

A memorable sunset from last Spring’s Bluebonnet bloom down here in the Texas Hill Country. I am (im)patiently waiting for scenes like this to be the norm again... 💙

Crossed paths with a cute (albeit grumpy-looking) juvenile Gopher Tortoise at a local park. He/she was busy munching away on greenery and was relatively unphased by my presence, pausing only for a second as I knelt on the ground with my camera. I snapped a handful of photos and quietly observed from a distance. And before I moved on, I made sure to tell him/her how cute they were. 😍

The Gopher Tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) is a native species to Florida and is protected by law. Although it doesn’t happen often because human development encroaches on their habitat, it’s always a delight to see these creatures in the wild. 🐢

Happy Earth Day! 🌎🌱

Our busy, blue marble of a planet is the perfect combination of lots of water, some plate tectonics, and a protective atmosphere — effortlessly sustaining an immense range of life like it’s not something incredibly phenomenal! And to think we would be nothing without this very special, very particular mix of ingredients that make up this spectacular place we call home!

Get outside if you can, friends. Take care of each other, and take care of our home. Every day. 💙

One of the most amazing moments in my life -- walking up to Horseshoe Falls for the very first time just as a full rainbow was forming in the gorge! Absolutely breath-taking! :)

It's simple, really, the making of a rainbow -- just some sunlight and some water. Simple. But easy...not in the least. It's reflection, refraction, dispersion -- phenomenal meteorological science; Mother Nature's fierce magic! It requires great skill, effort, practice, patience. Simple, but not easy. And, oh, how beautifully she shines when all of that energy synchronizes! :)

Thank you, Mother Nature, for showing off a fantastically dreamy rainbow over the Rainbow Mountains! Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, NV

As the sun sets over Paris, the Eiffel Tower is bathed in a warm golden glow, casting long shadows across the city. The tower's steel curves and intricate details are silhouetted against a colorful sky of oranges, pinks, and purples. The tranquil Seine River flows peacefully below, reflecting the tower's brilliance in the water. The iconic tower's intricate iron lattice stands tall and proud, drawing crowds from all over the world. The moment is magical, and captures the essence of Paris - the city of love, romance, and unparalleled beauty.

Autumn views from Blue Ridge Parkway, part I 🍁

Recently, on a road trip to the Northeast for family matters, we had the opportunity to squeeze in a small diversion to the Blue Ridge Parkway on our trip back West. We got to trek the Plateau region of the Parkway, smack dab in the heart of Appalachia, and in the midst of the fall foliage season! ⛰

The day was off to a disappointing start with a skunked sunrise and a completely overcast sky (and not the kind of overcast that still has texture to it, of course ). So we walked a few trails, admired the many scenic overlook views, wandered into a small mountain town for lunch, and drove through one tree tunnel after the next painted with shades of reds, oranges, and yellows. 🍂

By late afternoon it was a completely different day, much to our delight. The clouds broke up and golden sunlight glazed across the landscape, bringing forth all the vivid color of autumn’s fingerprints on the mountains.

To be continued...

Big Horn sheep form an impenetrable wall and charge collectively at first I though me. Being half way up a mountain in knee deep snow for a moment I thought that was it. I will be killed by sheep. As it turned out there was a coyote behind me that the sheep were attacking to defend the young.

This morning, the Rainbow Mountains took the rare opportunity to hit the snooze button, roll back over under a fresh blanket of snow, and nuzzle up against the sleepy fluffs of clouds -- without the faintest idea of the beauty of it all. :)

A fidgety Cactus Wren (Campylorhynchus brunneicapillus) takes a split-second rest atop the spikes of a cholla cactus. Darting from one spiny cactus to the next while shouting all about it, this wren and his/her buddies made their presence well known to those of us on the hiking trail. While this bird paused for a quick jittery moment, I snapped about a dozen shots and then he dashed off into his needled playground. Found throughout the American SW and Mexico, and shown here among a Sonoran desert scene in Arizona, where the Cactus Wren also happens to be the state bird. 🌵
