Activists of all ages gathered for an afternoon of art, music and politics at our third Democracy Cafe in Mill Valley. This month, we looked into solutions to end gun violence, through a range of activities designed to inspire us to action. We started the day by making signs for the ‘March for Our Lives’ rally. We then sang along with the Freedom Singers. Marin County Supervisor Kate Sears led a group discussion on gun reform. Young singer Emma Spike performed songs of hope, and music director Reed Fromer led a final sing-along with some classic tunes about social change.
This free public event took place on Sunday, March 18th from 2 to 5pm, at the O'Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley. We were delighted to see many young people come make their own signs against gun violence, then stay to sing and talk with us.
Thanks to all our friends and neighbors who came to join their voices, minds and hearts to energize each other and create a better world. Kudos to our co-hosts Marilyn Price, Jennifer Tomkins, Rebecca Brackman, Grace Severtson -- and everyone who helped us organize this uplifting community event.
Democracy Cafe is a series of free creative and civic events led by Fabrice Florin and a growing community of activists and artists in Marin. We think making art, playing music and talking with people of all ages and backgrounds can build mutual understanding and engage us to take meaningful political action together.

Students, families, and supporters of March For Our Lives took to the streets of New York City on March 24, 2018; to demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence in our communities and schools today. Over a hundred thousand people participated on the March For Our Lives Rally ​in New York City, marching from Central Park West down to 6th avenue. Over 800 sibling marches​ were planned in every state​ across the country and on every continent​. March For Our Lives is a student-led movement ​to end gun violence in our country. On bikes and in bright red budgie smugglers, the "WorkChoices. Never Again" campaigners highlighted a very serious issue; the Liberals' plans to bring back the worst elements of WorkChoices.
